Hi,
Have been searching the net/these forums for a few hours now to find what oil i should use when i service my 54' Lcr later this week.

After reading many many posts, I have established that I need a 0w-30 or 5w-30 oil (more people favoring the 5w-30) that conforms to 503.01 standard (not 503.00 as the lcr has over 180hp :funk:)

EDIT: I have now read that spec 504.00 supercedes both 503.00 and 503.01 ! is this true ??

Quote below from opieoils.co.uk... http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-990-seat-engine-oil.aspx
"The 504 00 specification supercedes the 503 00 and 503.01 specifications for SEAT engines. 504 00 oils are suitable for SEAT engines meeting the demands of Euro IV emissions standards. (Specification supplied by VW)"

Some people (vern for the most part) have reccomended Castrol slx oil from halfords, have checked the halfords and castrol websites and it seems they have re-bottled the SLX range and now call it Castrol EDGE and it is the same stuff.

Can somone confirm this ?

If i dont get the castrol then my other option is the Quantum Syntha gold fully synthetic.

I take it this meets the 503.01 standard as its a vag oil ?

This would be easy/cheap for me to get as i work at renault right next door to VW and know a few of the guys/parts guys in there.

Lastly on the service front, does anyone know the part numbers for the oil filter and polen filter i need ?

Will prob be able to get the VW guys to look this up for me but just in case.

Thanks guys

Ah also... after some more searching i may be posting a thread regarding all the parts and part numbers i need to do a cambelt on my lcr so any info on this would be excelent thanks

thanks for the reply techie !

Think this is what i may end up putting in as its easily available and made for vag. Anyone want to persuade me otherwise please do !

cheers for the filter number.

Any info on doing a cambelt on an lcr ? have heard that space is a bit of an issue !

yeh its a 225 BAM engine and my manual says the same thing but I think as the manual is 5 years old now the standards have been changed/reclassified since then.

think i will stick to the quantum vag stuff as this is what was used when the dealer serviced it last.

Another thing, does anyone know when/what milage the fuel filter is due for replacement on an lcr ? I cant find any reference to this in the service book !

I Cant fault castrol Edge 5-30, 2 oil changes and 14k miles, not used an ounce! £40-50 for 4lt bottles is a pain though! but i dont see the point of scrimping on oil, especially where a turbo is concerned

synta gold is no longer made from VW.

the Quantum 5-30 longlife3 is what i supply and also use in my own as i work for a TPS centre. Still change the oil every 6-8k

i would of thought 0-30 would be very thin.. this is used in big engined mercs and bmw's (known as synta ed from your local TPS)
