Alloys - opinions and experiences please on LC

Have an 03 Lean Cupra, few subtle mods, 007p and induction kit. Looking to get some alloys and tyres - probably from Wheelbase on Egay.
Seen the R8 replica's which I love! They only come with cheapo type tyres "quoted as All Weather". Not doing and track days or super fast driving. Just didnt want to fork out £110 a corner for P6000's.
I can get these delivered for under £500 with tyres! they are the closes thing i can find to the Cupra R wheels.

Anyone running these? or got some photo shoppage so I can see what they may look like?

Anyone know where I could buy a set of LCR wheels? (with tyres!) for around the same cash??

dont know why everyone moans at cheapo tyres. you're getting wheels and tyres for under 500, thats a good deal in anyones book. the tyres may be shite but save for a couple months and upgrade - job done.

Because you could end up in a ditch, perhaps? Don't forget that the winter months are when we really need our tyres to perform and do you want all the salt and crap all over shiny new alloys? Might be worth saving up a bit longer until the spring and in the meantime keep on the lookout for some Cupra R alloys if thats what you're after, you should pick a set up with tyres for well under £500.

Well i speak from first hand experience - not making it up like some people

I had some 39 quid 225 40 18 on some alloys a few years back... guess what? 24 months of very good handling and grip and never a scary moment. I suggest you try some of the 'cheap' tyres out before sharing your opinion on them!

Can I ask what car you had them on and what make they were?

I suggest you try some of the 'cheap' tyres out before sharing your opinion on them!

I have over 18 years of driving experience and I can assure you that in that time I have tried 'cheap' tyres and have seen some very nasty accidents. Does that qualify me to share my opinion on them?

jonnyjonjon you absolutly correct.

I had Enduro runway tyres on my LCR when i bought it. I found out they were about 50 odd quid a corner. They were RUBBISH in the wet the ESP kept cutting in when pulling away, losing the back end on roundabouts etc i hated them.

Upgraded as soon as i could to decent quality pricey tyres and ive never had a problem with them, tonnes of grip!!

In my opinion avoid at all costs Cheapo tyres or even running old, dry or cracked tires for the simple reason that you don't know what ure missing out on, the whole driving experience is on another level. i'm running Pirelli Dragons which i just bought 1 month ago and i actually look for a reason to go out and drive

go for something mid range. like the falkerns, wont cost you loads, but are not pants either.

some of the ebay ones will probably let you specify uprated tyres if you email them! thinking about doing something similar when my standard tyres get a bit lower on tread. anyone got pics of cupra tdi's at standard ride height with 18s? hoping to keep standard suspension but not at expense of lookin silly

I'm running Goodyear F1's and they transformed the handling of my car. I do hear good things about the Falken 452's though and they're not that expensive.

Falkens, Hankooks and even Avons are way superior to the cheap crap like Triangle or Runway tyres.

ive had some super cheap tyres that work really well, but also somr that dont work all that well. tyres are very important, but some cheap ones can work well. especially if your not pushing them to there limits.

Good tyres will stop you quicker, no matter how careful or slowly you drive.
Brand new cheapos will be fine at first but lose their stickiness quickly.

Best you can afford re tyres and brake pads, it could mean the difference between life and death.

Difficult to compare these two, but here you go:

Me: LCR210 with Vredestein Ultra Sessanta on the rear, two cheapo tyres on the front (one was a Mohawk, forget what the other was)
Friend: Mazda 626 with cheap tyres on

We're bombing down a dual carriageway, I think I was getting close to 90 mph, it was downhill and very wet (raining). My mate was a long way behind. The lights started to change and I could've made it through before they went red, but I'd have been waiting for ever for my mate to catch up, so I anchored up and stopped perfectly on the line. I looked behind me and could see this 626 squirrelling around under braking way behind me. He pulled up right next to me, wound his window down and said "how the hell did you stop in time? I struggled and I was way behind you and definitely going slower". OK, so the Brembos on the LCR and the chassis of the LCR probably helped, but ultimately the crappy front tyres did awesome.

So, I'm saying cheap tyres are good, right?

Wrong. They worked fine in a straight line, but the amount of times the front lost traction on wet roundabouts was unbelievable. I once took a right turn a bit sharp, or rather, I tried to (the wheels were turned right) but the car just slid in a straight line. The cheapo tyres only worked when I was going straight. Make any adjustment to the steering and I'd might as well be running on the rims.

Replaced all four tyres with Goodyear F1 GSD3s and it's a different car. It now goes around corners, which is always a help. Cheap tyres: Never again. When the Mrs went to have hers changed (she has Michelins all round) the tyre place told her "the cheapest ones are £60", to which I butted in and asked "and how much for the same again?". "Um, £90 mate" they replied, somewhat confused. "Fit them then". D'oh!

And let's not forget that rain, snow and ice is what we'll be getting more often than not over the next few months. It might not be just your own safety either, I have three young kids. F1's for me, Michelin Pilots on my Missus's A3.
