What next: TT brakes or TIP?

Basically, the wife has offered to buy me something for the car for Xmas. I did mention a remap or coilovers and she laughed... then said no. Just over £100 to spend I think.

My ideas were either a Forge TIP or 312mm front brake set-up. Thoughts?

I think you're going to need a bit more than £100 for a 312mm front brake set up... although yes, you should get some money back on your standard brakes if you sell them on.

Yes I know, the wife will buy me the calipers and carriers and I will get discs and pads! Not sure if a TIP is the way forward as the car has not been mapped.

Someone has what looks like a pretty good deal on a really clean set up in the accessories section at the mo - new pads and discs included.

And 'TIP' - what's that when it's at home?

I have seen those. Might send a PM! TIP = Turbo Intake Pipe. Replacement for the restrictive (and prone to collapsing) OEM intake.

Looking around £400 for the 312mm, and I still have three sets of OE 288 brakes kicking around, no one ever wants them...lol

Oh bugger! £400 for calipers, carriers, discs and pads? Thought it might be cheaper than that...

TIP it is then!

And that's if you can find a set at the moment, Steve sold out of his supply of practically new ones a while ago now so its used ones or brand new. You can get them a bit cheaper but I wouldnt expect change from 300 even if you got and old set, retail on the discs is about £70 each for genuine ones and about £65 for the pads.

I would if I were in the market for a set of these - seen them fetch £250 in the past for a well used grubby set.

Ahhhh... is that something that affects the TDI models as well?

*Might* be part of why mine feels more restrictive at higher revs than my old car... hmmm.

TIP is a nice part to have if you are planning a remap, must say I haven;t noticed any differences running a standard map but I'm sure it will come into its own when mapped

It does look pretty under the bonnet tho

Hey Mike,

Just got a pair of nearly new Audi TT callipers and carriers in red from the TT Shop for £130 inc p&p. V good condition, I don't even need to repaint them. Got new discs for £85. Fitting tomorrow.

Deffinatelt go for the 312's over a TIP.

Make it handle before you mess with the engine.

Think for my 312 setup it cost me around £200 all in.

If you can bag a 312mm set for £200 - £250 go for it I say, you just have to be in the right place at the right time.

i think if you get the tip mike your find it wasnt your best purchase as it makes next to no difference thats what i have found on my standard map anyway. as said it might come into its own when mapped but even then im not to sure.
