Just a quickie, Can the key transponder be reprogrammed to another car or is a new one required?

Thanks

The transponder signal can't be re-programmed (it's unique) but the signal can be added to the "Key-List" on the other car from what I've heard and will de-immobilise the car.

You can re-programme the remote key fob to unlock any car so long as you have the original key.

so does that mean i could have different signals but the car would recognise both? what software could i buy to do this "key-list" would it be VAG TACHO 2.5 DASH KEY PROGRAMMER MAKER?

Thanks

I was under the impression that the transponder was unique to the original car and is matched to the ecu and could not be used on any other vehicle :confused:, this was definitely the case with mine, new keys can be added to the list as long as the frequencies are the same (433 0r 434) and new transponders can be matched to the car.

as long as the frequencies are the same (433 0r 434)

The frequency 433/434Mhz relates to the frequency of the remote key fob - this is what locks/unlocks the car doors and can be reprogrammed so long as you have an original key. This doesn't have anything to do with starting the engine though.

The transponder (glass tube inside the key fob) is a unique signal. But if you have the SKC code for your car (using the above ebay tool) you can allocate new transponder signals to you ECU (up to a maximum of 6 keys or something iirc) this means you can have your original key with transponder signal "x" and a second key with transponder signal "y" both able to un-immobilise your engine.

=====

P.S. This is from what I've read on here and various other forums, but it seems to have a variable success rate!

I'm hoping to buy both a brand new transponder and a remote key fob in the new year and give this a shot on my mk4 Ibiza making a complete new key! I'll be try to document it and make a how-to at the time.

Yes i understand what the frequencies are, The big thing with this is having the SKC code which i dont and from what i have heard its really hard to get it from seat UK.

i've found 1 at 433 and loads at 434.

has there been many people on here that had the old 2 button remote at 433 and changed to the flip at 434. I can locate a few threads where it had worked, is it many? and how many have tried and failed and had to remain at 433.

I know this is an age old discussion, but it would be great if i could get a line drawn under it.

Thanks

Yeah i had read that some with 433 found that 434 worked thats why i tried, but it didn't work and as my car is the same as yours i am assuming they will be the same.
