1.8T BBU - Where does the instrument panel get it's temp reading from?

I know it is NOT the coolent sensor to the right of the lump. I see no wires from the thermostat housing, it is not the sensor in the rad, it is not what i suspect is the knock sensor in the middle of the lump at the front.

Does anyone know exactly where the instrument panel in the car obtains it temp reading on this type of engine? I'm well confused.

Isn't it the sensor in the grill next to the left fog lamp? It looks to me like a/the temperature sensor :D

according to the parts system all the 04/05 cars have it as a 2 pin black sensor clipped in the coolant thermostat housing??

Should be the temp sensor as Flapper says. It will be black or green on the Ibizas. It's in the right side of the engine, held in by a plastic spring clip with a wiring connector coming off it.

Kriso. That is the coolent temp sensor, if i disconnect this the temp reading in the car (not outside temp) still works.

I've now solved my problem but I still want to know where the engine temp on the instrument panel gets it's reading from as I cannot find anything.

myneek. That's where the instrument panel gets its reading from, and also why you can't find anytting else. The instrument panel shows coolant temperature from that sensor which is in contact with the coolant. There isn't an 'engine temperature' sensor because obviosuly the engine temp varies so much depending on where the measurement is taken so would be a bit pointless.
