Was browsing the forum last night and spotted somebody who has disabled the EGR via VAG-COM. Now i have disconnected and plug the tube on the EGR, But does disabling it make any diffrents with VAG-COM.

Thanks.

With Vag com you reduce the amount of recirculated gas the engine is expecting, just removing the vac pipe will eventually bring on the engine management light. You can buy removal pipes and have the ecu software adapted (normally when remapped) to adjust to the change, thus removing the egr control side of things.

They vac pipe has been off for nearly a year now. Would disabling the EGR via VAG-COM be any noticble diffrence?.

no mate, none what so ever, with the vac pipe disconnected the egr valve has no way of opening. I'm suprised its not flagged up a fault, is it definatly the egr valve you have disconnected and not the anti-shudder valve?

Earlier ECUs don't flag up a fault if you block off the vacuum supply to the EGR :)

Yes it the vac pipe on the EGR, She still smooth when turning the engine off. Mine is a late 2002 car.

The reason for this is the earlier models (DIESELS BUILT BEFORE 2004 AND PETROLS BEFORE 2001) dont have OBD or EOBD which means if a fault occurs which effect the emmisions then the vehicle must display a warning sign in the form of the engine light, or OBD light.

I dare say that an egr reulation limit fault will be logged on the ecu but will not cause the light to come on.
