i have 130 tdi sport which does 77mph in 6th at bang on 2000rpm but ive heard the fr had a shorter 5th and 6th gear.
Yes... I have a Sport so know what the score is with these.i have the same and off top off my head i would agree,
As per the title - how many RPM is the Mk4 FR TDI doing in sixth, at an indicated 80mph?
TIA
Cheers Stu.
Don't suppose you have any idea what it maxes out at 'on an autobahn', in terms of RPM and speed... again in sixth?
TIA
well i have been in a hybrid fr tdi on my uncles airstrip and we hit 160mph in 6th and a little bit (just off the clock)
neither me or the person i was in with was paying much attention to the revs but was prettey much on the limiter
if there was enough power and the correct aerodynamics the gear ratios in the older long ratio sport the top speed would be 196mph
SteveC123 - i've had over 145 in mine and there was still a bit more pull, Paul said he had it to 150 on the way to the ring (sure he said it showed this on a satnav) Not sure of RPM as i was beginning to cr*p myself
As said - the FR is shorter gear ratio'd. It revs at 2500 at 80 whereas the Sports rev at just a fraction over 2k.
If I'm right im saying, the car will actually hit it's top speed in 5th gear, it's just 6th is more of a "cruiser gear."
Hmmm... the most I've seen in mine out of it in fifth is 132.
I've seen a bit more out of it in sixth, but not that much... and one of the reasons I'm asking all these questions is because I'm sure mine feels like it's holding back a bit at higher revs in sixth.
So... is it the gearing is just too long for the car to be able to pull through at higher RPM (and I therefore ought to be looking at getting the box out of an FR or Fabia vRS for it if I expect to see any real improvement, and hence the original reason for me asking the question about the FR)... or, given my mods so far are just map, green panel air filter and FMIC, does it need to be made to breathe better in terms of intake and maybe binning the EGR and cat?
I say the latter because it feels to me like it's a bit 'asthmatic', (if that's the right word), when you're trying to max it out in sixth (on a private road, of course!), compared to the mapped Passat TDI I had before this... and a friend suggested the layout of the Passat engine wise would have possibly made for something that breathed a lot better in terms of the exhaust manifold etc.
Its Tall-Pauls old car, so in short everything that could have been done to it has been (apart from a Dif but i dont feel it needs one atm)
Very Very nice
