its an early SEM manifold, fabricated along the lines of the monstor 007 I used to run.
larger plenum that the 007, and R32 throttle body sized, but also smallport
right - another update after a weekends work...
SEM manifold known pin holes (the visible ones) have been welded, but I did'nt like some of the visible porosity in the cast section of the plenum, so as I dont want to every be doing this again, shot blast the whole thing back to raw ally, and then weld all others which may become visible..
that done, there were remaining pores showing, which were not suitable to welding, so have been metal filled now and sanded back for a smooth clean, sealed surface.
Pictures below of the process so far.

Goes into top colour (black) tonight before refitting.

It will be fine.
the known pin holes which leaked visibly in the welds, have been welded.
I chose to shotblast the whole thing back to raw metal to see if anything else was lurking under their paint as I want this 100%.
There were some dimples in the cast plenum, which I have chosen to chemical metal fill to smooth them out and fill them cosmetically.
I would not be wasting the numerous additional hours its taken for the hell of it for a £350 manifold.
I want it right, so I chose to go back to metal and worked back up so I know its 100%. Its piss poor that I had to do this at all from the original supplier
The manifold will not be leaking anything ever. Rest Assured

Shoundet do, dries rockhard that stuff if mixed and applied properly. Good work there Bill.
just to confirm and clarify, I have not used chemical metal to fill known leaking holes... they have been aluminium welded by me. I chose to use chemical metal filler to fill the dimples/pores in the casting as it is strong filler, to be sure none of these pores actually go anywhere. I could have chosen to use plain body filler to make it look right, but chose to use chemical metal filler for the additional security and strength it offers. the known leaking pin holes have been aluminium welded secure.
Ah right, got you now by pin holes do you mean like pitting on the surface? Still a top job, what finish you going for, matt, satin, gloss or wrinkle?
I am still mapping it... which given the weather conditions this weekend, is proving tricky..

4th gear wheelspin when boost goes over 1bar.
Its getting there.. violent little thing
Seeing 1bar boost at 3500rpm in 4th, by 4krpm 30psi & mad wheelspin... Am taming it down, but when its up its away... if only it could find traction that is.
the battle continues..

I can imagine that unless you've got good winter tyres though anything with any sortve power will be hard to map.

ill put good money that good winter tyres will not stop the the spin up in the wet
I'm not saying it won't stop spin up, but it will certainly improve matters in this coldness and weather. and mapping is about part throttle openinggs too and if you can't do part throttle cause of cheap tyres then that would make a difference.
Agreed! No matter what it going to spin, so why not destroy some nasty tyres in the process
