after fitting knackered wishbone console bushes myself on my 03 tdi sport with cupra ones i quickly had my tracking checked and was told it was fine but the car seemed to pull to the left after the new bushes were fitted so after loads of messing about had a second check on my tracking by somebody else, low and behold it was the size of a small country out so my lesson learned is don't have your tracking done at a tyre fitter who can only fit tyres and just can't be arsed to adjust your tracking !!
oh and my friend as just had her bushes done at a main dealer for a small charge of £250 quid!!

These console things are so different to the 306.

So if my console bushes break I can upgrade to Cupra ones, with loads of hassle it seems. But are normal replacement ones any easier to replace? Surely they don't last as long but as they're voided they should just slot into the consoles then the wishbone bcan just go back into situ right?

Cheers

Fraid not - the standard bushes are just as big a pain in the arse to fit - better to have cupra bushes OR whitepower bushes fitted and be done with it.

best combination i found was to use cupra rear bushes and powerflex front bushes on the front wishbone.

Whilst the car is in bits - have the front anti-roll bar bushes done at the same time.

Then have the tracking done properly.

Right cheers.

I've read about replacing the consoles outright but surely they can't be cheap.

Sounds a complete mare, might have to use the guide on briskoda and get the cupra bushes pushed in by a garage then just use normal wishbones.

I think i'd fit the stadard ones as everyone seems to have trouble getting the cupra metal cased ones in. The standard ones just slide right in don't they with lots of lube because of their nylon casing?

If you know what your doing then there is no difference between replacing the two different bushes. If you are unsure, remove your consoles, take them to a garage and get them to press the new bushes in with a hydraulic press

can be done with threaded bar and big strong washers, but press is a hell of lot easier,

+1 on this. Did mine with threaded bar and large washers.

have also seen it done with a large bench vice ( take the consoles off the car )

I think the consoles will be a fortune from seat and you can't guarantee second hand ones will be straight after an accident.
