Service Question

I bought my Cupra secondhand from a non-franchised dealer. As part of the deal they offered to service the car before I picked it up. Having been caught out by that salesman patter before (where a non-franchised dealer's idea of a service was to change the oil and do nothing else) I bargained that I wanted it done at a franchised dealer and the book stamped, which they agreed to.

Anyhow cut a long story short, service book states car had 'Interval Service Inspection' at 7912 miles on 7/11/08 (one year after it was originally purchased).

The service I had done before I collected it was at 13131 miles on 25/08/09. Invoices show oil & filter, pollen filter, checks of this and that, couple of replaced trim screws, replaced rear washer bolt cover, recall check, diagnostic check. The invoice stated that the brake fluid would need doing in Nov 09 (or 2 years, so I was expecting that anyhow). So ultimately I guess I got my 2nd year service done 3 months early, excluding the brake fluid change.

The service indicator came on yesterday saying service due in 2600 miles or 18 days. The car has now done 15500 miles. I think that it is as simple as the dealer didn't reset the indicator, probably becuase they hadn't done the brake fluid change at the service.

I am going to reset the service indicator and get it booked in for the brake fluid change (needs some warranty work doing anyway), and then just make sure that the next service is done around September next year; everything should then be back onto the standard 12 month cycle? I'll aways hit the time rather than the mileage for servicing as only do about 9k miles per year in the Leon, unlike our other car mind (Octy VRS CR TDi) which is 16 months old and has 52000 on the clock

Would you agree?

That sounds spot on mate. Like you say if you hit the 12 mths before the 10,000 mile from last service then that is the time for the service.

if i were you i would take the car back to the dealers you purchased it from and tell them that your car was not serviced as per SEATS recomendations no brake fluid change and the service indicator was not reset.you asked them to get it serviced at a main dealer as part of the deal so thats what you should get.

Brake fluid change is only an advisory, not a requirement. They get out of it that way.

As for the service indicator, just press and hold the button, turn the ignition on, turn the button and forget about it.

thanks guys, reset the service indicator last night. There are many forum posts on brake fluid change so I don't want to drag that up in this thread again. Overall I wasn't surprised that they didn't do it, the car wasn't yet 2 years old (I 'chose' to have the 2 year service early effectively) so I don't think I could play on the "it wasn't done to SEAT's recommendation" line.

Its gotta go in for warranty work anyhow (typical stuff like squeaky folding mirrors, rattles in drivers door) so I will get the fluid change done at the same time for peace of mind as its a 100 mile round trip for me to get to the nearest stealer.

Hopefully then I'll be 12 months away from having to go to the stealers again!

Brake fluid change is not an advisory , its part of the second year service.

Acording to my "Maintenance Programme" book that I had with my Leon the brake fluid should be changed after 3 years for first time then 2 every years after. It wont do any arm having it changed earlier though.

Lots of other threads on this. At some point the "Maintenance Programme" book was changed. Mine definately says brake fluid after first 2 years followed by every 2 years.

How do you get the service indicator reset? My K1 has had the same problem, got it serviced at 11months old before I took it away from the dealers and now the service light has been coming on and a beep when the engine is turned on. I've been trying to get hold of the dealer for about a week and he's always busy! I'm not taking a visit down there as its a 5 hour round trip!!

storm bay, how did you reset the service indicator light? was it... "holding in the odometer button and turning the ignition on and then twisting the button ..."? This method doesn't seem to work on my mk 2 cupra.

•Turn on ignition.
•Hold down Right trip button and continue to do so whilst turning off ignition.
•Still with Right trip button held down turn ignition back on.
•Release Right trip button.
•With ignition still on turn Left trip button to the Right and release.
•Turn off ignition.

;)

Somethin like that, my bf found a tutorial online, went something like, hold it in while the engine is off, turn engine on, twist to the right and hold for 5 seconds, then turn it off and on again, it worked for my K1!
