Hey guys, after getting a fault code and posting in the diagnostics section I got this reply.

Check the wiring to your MAP sensor for damage - if it's not that or the connector - time for a new map sensor.

How do I go about this? I have limited experience but don't mind getting my hands dirty to have a look, I assume it's just a visual check of the wires but I need to know how to find it first :D

Also, if I need to, how much is a new one?

check rubber seals that hold air box cover are fitted right or air leak to inlet manifold ok

take it to dealer if you are not sure ok to far away too help you or i could show you

MAP sensor (mainifold absolute pressure)is in top of intercooler -

MAF (mass air flow) is connected between airbox and turbo intake

depends which one has gone. Both would give similar outcomes as in flat spots in car performance

Believe me I wasn't saying you were wrong. I would have asked you in that thread regarding fault codes but didn't want to take it off topic so I made a new one. I just don't know where to find the MAP sensor to take a look at it so was asking for some help! Still unsure!

depends which one has gone. Both would give similar outcomes as in flat spots in car performance

They won't give similar outcomes.
The ecu can compensate for a faulty maf by running default settings using readings from map sensor etc. It cannot compensate for a faulty map sensor.

Great, at least now I have some theory behind the issue, to be truthful, I've only noticed issues when changing up gears, particularly in 1st and 2nd, sometimes I get a big jolt, I just assumed this was due to me letting out the clutch to quickly but I never had this issue with the 1.3 Diesel Corsa I learned to drive it, it is a diesel though so maybe I need to be more gentle with the clutch at the lower rev range.

I know where the intercooler is but where abouts is the MAP sensor in relation to this? I assume I am just checking for loose wires and such?

A picture would be ideal!

Hi Acksaw,

Is this fault related to the 1.2 ibiza as per your signature??

If it is the map sensor is located on the left side of the inlet manifold (as youre facing the engine) Its the only sensor around that area of the engine bay and relatively easy to locate. Find the oil filler cap and travel north, sorry easiest directions I could give. Just two T20 hex screws hold it in.

Have you tried just clearing the code and see if it reappears?

I have the same car and the 1.2's dont have a maf sensor but a combined map/inlet air temperature sensor. VAG call it a thrust sensor.

Thanks for the reply, fantastic instructions and will help me out greatly. Yes, it is for the 1.2 in my sig.

I did not clear the code as didn't think it was worth it, the light comes on in my car for a week, then goes off, then comes back on so thought it'd just come back again.

One thing I remembered that may be the cause of this issue is that the little 1.2 12v Seat central logo thing came off my engine cover and was lodged down the front of my car, It had even melted a bit of it. Could this have knocked one of the sensor cables and dislodged it? Seems plausible to me? Needless to say I've binned the cover!

Hi Acksaw,

Funny that because my logo disappeared off the engine cover and was never seen again lol I would imagine the bit that fell off has nothing to do with map error code, as the map sensor is tucked away at the back off the engine with nothing really that close to it. Maybe the connector from the loom to the sensor is just a little dirty??

I would try clearing the code and see what, if anything reappears.

Although this error code points to the map sensor it could easily be something else.

I had an issue in my old car, it was running like a bag of shite, the fault was found to be a snapped wire on the MAP sensor, just three wires running into it. If the same has happened then you will probably need a new plug (only about a fiver) and maybe the 3 wire set VW sell.

Can i bypass the n249 valve or is that only on petrol cars? Can't seem to find a answer anywhere
