Agreed... its the tyres... had same issue when I bought my car.

Hankook Evo V12's sorted it out and now feels planted in the wet

Be careful with the term 'ventus' as Hankook use this across the range... and some of their tyres arent too hot.

Hankook Evo V12 is Hankook's high performance tyre and has done superb in german tyres test.

I've been running them for 30k miles now and really rate them.

Proper name is Ventus V12 Evo, Ventus is the line of tyres, glad you mentioned the V12 Evo are the best of the bunch, **** hot tyres fro 77 quid each

Yeah I always get the name mixed up ... I'm fussy with tyres and I've got some good friends that have done substancial track work, nurburgring, etc on these tyres and also rate them.

It's why I tried them and for the money you wont buy a better tyre... £50 per corner to me

I do fancy trying the Vredstein Sessana (or whatever they called) next though!

Back on my prevous car (Saxo VTR, currently drive ABF'd mk2 Golf Gti) I had Yokohama S-drives and cannot fault them!! I'd come off the slip road from the m25, onto a large roundabout, and could throw the car round it at pretty much any speed I liked, no matter how much standing water there was!

But remember your comparing a car of little over a ton to a 1,356Kgs car. Te extra weight changes the tyre and brake choices dramatically.
Even between cars, I advised my mate to buy F1 Asymmetrics for his Modeo ST220, they performed very badly on this but his Pirelli P zeros were awesome

Mine spins in first, second and third so easily but i dont cain it round corners in the rain as you have to expect it to handle this way being front weighted FWD car. Good tyres will help but dont be stupid and find yourself in a ditch. My pirellis are fine in the dry but i have no confidence with them in the wet so they wont be here long, i havent noticed differences from tyre pressures other than the ride comfort is much better around 29-30psi compared to higher when im on longer journeys.

ATM mine has nankangs on and the understeer is dreadfull, a poor driver could easily total the car its that bad.

I couldn't agree more on that satement, when I bought the car it had F1's on all round, fronts had about 2mm tread left so I thought i'd try the NS2's, BIG mistake, in the dry they suit my driving style i.e. not flooring it everywhere, in the wet I would go as far to say they are dangerous, if you ever see a Leon going around Sheffield at 15mph in the rain it could well be me!
Obviously a decent brand tyre will be chosen next.

glad to see its not just me then with issues in the rain. Looks like it is a tyre issue then. I might be tempted to with toyos, or Goodyear when i get my new set of rims then. I have Toyos on my MK3 Fes and there fine in the dry & wet, but that cars on rails anyway.

OK the leon handles pretty well in the dry although a little light on the front with some understeer.

In the rain its completely different. I have to pull away real slow or the traction control kicks in and goes mad to stop the wheels spinning and i get real bad understeer, even small bends at 20\30mph i can feel the front not turning in properly.

Anyone else had this. Maybe some polybushes, strut brace, and some decent all weather tyres might help.

As everyone has said tyres are vital, not just tread but the rubbers stickiness. F1s here too.
The leon was designed to understeer and its brilliant at it in the wet but add a Rear ARB and the car is much better balanced. Pushed to the limit it will just about understeer before it oversteers. youll find the car flatter on corners and tucks in better, makes the car more confident and safer in the wet.

my 1.0 16v micra with skinny wheels and very little tread could have my leon on corners in the wet

Camskill are £50 a tyre for the EVO in my size compared to £61 for the F1's.
