Cambelt change

Hi all

I am going to get my cam belt changed in the next few weeks (64k on the clock, 2005 model).

Should I get the water pump done as well? I have heard that the water pump is pretty much bullet proof and I shouldn't change it unless I have to.

What do you think?

for the sake of 23 quid its worth changing , i know some where plastic impellors before and broke down

so changing to metal was the thing to do , but believe vag changed their ways now and think their using plastic again only stronger

deffo get it done at the same time, if it fails the belt will have to come off again. so get it done at the same time. peace of mind.

No its from a uk seller mate, the one on das ebay doesnt say it has a metal impellor.

Online etka shows the ARL PD150 water pump as;

as said david @ sere motors (sponsor on here ) is doing it for 23 pounds plus delivery and quotes a maximum delivery would be a £10 for heavier things

and its genuine

They are a very good price and a good german quality product. I just don't know which one to order because they list 2 different ARL types.......I've sent Hepu an email but they aint got back to me.

I am defo going to go for one, for the sake of £30, I may as well.

I will go for the metal impeller unit when I find one, just having a trawl around now.

Chris, I just rang the Frank Follet people that do the HEPU water pumps and they are not currently trading. They are moving premesis so all stock has been stored indefinately

This still ongoing? When I rung them up in Feb they told me exactly the same story.....how long does it take to move premesis right fair lol

I would always change the pump, aux belts, idlers etc (using a kit) when changing the belt whatever car it was. For the cost, time and effort, its just not worth the dicking about.

Last year I bought an Astra diesel estate (requiring a new head gasket) as a run around (Pre Pug). After sorting it out the Mrs didn't like to drive it and it had to go (was not amused at the time). Anyway with the gasket change everything was replaced including the pump. Father could get the bits cheap via work, gave him a list 'pump, what do you want one of those for?' Well you know the response. Anyway job done.

Several weeks later the old man needed to change the belt on his diesel Corsa van and just did the belt kit. Within weeks after that the pump went. Sods law and all that but you know the moral of the story.

I think most decent independent mechanics would recomend to do the same.

Well this arrived as I was leaving the house this morning:

Off eBay, £25 delivered, decent brand, metal impeller and don't have to pay the £46 surcharge for an exchange unit.

I have got about 3 litres of anti freeze in the garage and off to buy the timing belt kit today. I have found a whole timing belt kit for £70 and the guy keeps them in stock which is useful.

I have also found a place that will do the job for £130. So I think I'm pretty happy with that.

sorry to resurrect and old thread, but that's a pretty decent price mate. Mine was in for a service last week and was told the timing belt and water pump was due (I already knew that!), and would they like me to do it for £450. Not surprisingly, I declined the offer.

Can I just ask where you got the auxillary belt from? and does it need to be done? plus, hows that water pump doing?
