Sorry if I've missed any previous threads on this topic for this age of petrol engine, but at factory, what grade of oil is used with the 1.4 85PS petrol engine - car is an October 2009 new build. I have seen Castrol SLX ?W-?? on the accessory stands and VW seem to use this with the new Polo 1.2 60PS (it was in the boot of a display car) - but I don't know the actual oil "weight". Thanks!

If good info on that subject was in there I would not be asking this question! All the manual lists are a selection of oils that cover most "weights" and temperature - I was asking for something a bit closer than that generic statement. Anyone know the answer to my original question?

Yes please, thanks for that, its my daughter's new car - but I'd expect that it will need to be me that jabs her now and again about checking the oil level - so she might as well buy some oil just in case.
