FMIC Questions

Hi all, forgive me for this post but I have never really explored this before and it looks simple enough to install a FMIC kit even if you're a novice.

I was thinking about buying an 07 Cupra and going Stage 2 but for the price of a standard one, I could get myself a good EVO 8 300 + have about £2k to spend on mods and an overall more enjoyable car with 400bhp & 4WD. Anyway, since that's a little way off (having LCR resprayed now so want some enjoyment out of the fresh look first), I may aswell get the old girl up to Stage 2 and see how I feel about her then.

So, the questions...

1) The car is Stage 1 (TIP, DV, Remap) and I don't plan to stick an exhaust on just yet for Stage 2. Can I bolt on a FMIC without getting a remap to suit it?

2) If above is 'YES', what benefits/drawbacks am I likely to see?

3) Will the car gain more boost pressure and will it change the sound of the DV or turbo (it's quite 'sucky' as it is now)?

4) Do I have to lose the foglights?

5) I don't plan to spray it and hide it (I would like to see it's shiney appearance through the mesh) but if that day ever does come, will it affect it's cooling ability?

Sorry for the newb FMIC questions

1. Yes can install FMIC
2. Benefits will be stronger top end due to lower engine temps so more power. Drawbacks will be more laggy depending on size of cooler.
3. You should gain an increase of 1-2psi imho from my previous experience of going this route.
4. No idea.
5. Painting the core will affect its cooling ability to an extent.

HTH.

3. Mine has a much deeper tone since fitting a FMIC, sounds far better, DV is also louder due to the extended length of metal pipework.
4. If you work your pipework carefully you can keep your fogs.
5. People have done this with no adverse effects; just keep the paint thin.

paint wont affect the intercooler mine has been sprayed and its fine the fogs can stay altho i have removed mine to get a good air feed to my hks mushroom filter hate the fogs any way . i ran my car with full stage 2 mods on and drove it a good few months before it even had a map on it and it made 233bhp (its a 210 standard ). you loose about 2 psi when fitting a fmic but when its stage 2 you can gain more boost due to the better air flow etc ..oh you will notice a different sound as the air pings through the metal pipes it sounds awesome . i left mine shiny but the rain salt etc made it all lime scaley hence painting it check my readers rides thread .. i have the same fmic

I did think about doing it DIY but I know i'd probably funk it up and I'd rather pay the extra for peace of mind.

Does the Forge kit come with metal pipes dan? The kit on their website looks like it's all silicone?

EVO is super sexy and running costs aren't too much. I walk to work each day and use the car 3days a week roughly & my dad has his own garage so labour is free and parts are trade. I'm just waiting for that extra yrs NCB and i'll be seriously looking but that's quite a few mths away yet and this time of yr is the worst for buying insurance, prices rocket!

I dropped a spanner on my dad's head once when he was under a car. I also get side tracked and end up picking dirt out from under the wheel arches which goes in his eyes...good times. Bring a helmet people!

Will the be a difference in sound with silicone pipe? Dan mentions it makes a nice sound through metal pipes.

Lol bet he wasnt happy! The silicone drowns the sound of the air rushing through them, where as the metal you can hear it and whistle louder, well on my tdi i noticed it when installnig a fmic with metal pipes :)

They sell universal pipe kits on ebay mate or you can buy all the bends seperatly.

If you do decide to go down this route make sure you get a kit with silicon joiners and not rubber.

You might also want to get a kit with T bolt clamps and not normal jubiliees

You would need 2.5" pipes.

No the forge kit comes with metal joiners bends and silicon go the forge route if you have the cash all the e bay jobbies don't have the lip/seam on the pipe work causing the hoses to fall off . With forge its a life time garentee as well and can all ways sell it on at a good price . Get forge you no you wanna . Not about a 160mph crash with a cut crash bar for the sake of e bay jobbie and forge kit

Where would you be doing 160mph on our roads?? Plus at that speed a crash bar isnt going to save you. And also with a custom fmic on a lcr, you dont need to cut the crash bar ;) Regarding the lips on the pipe, you can get metal beading to make your own lips for them, quality stuff ;) Pointless wasting all that money for when you can get something just as good, if not better at a third of the price :)

On my private roads brad we cut 2inches off ur crash bad and some of ur chassi leg sod that on a high performace car its ok on those slow soot machines but all I'm saying if you got the cash spend it on forge forge aint a waste its an investment as you will be able to sell it on . What's 500quid at the end of the day .. Peanuts with all tried tested and proper gear top quality service etc no what I would do and choose .. Or get the e bay one and one of those super resistors that give you a 100bhp increase lol
