Kudos for doing them yourself. I wouldn't have the patience (or a spare set of wheels or axle stands!).

As for the centre caps, couldn't you prize the centre "S" Sticker off, spray them up and get some more? Or mask them up and refurb around them? Bit fiddly but would look good!

What colour were you going to do?

Wheel refurb Part 3

Gettting the colour on today and sorting out centre caps!

Step 16: Gave the wheels another rub down with wet 1200 grit paper
Step 17: Light dust coat of colour to the inside of the wheel

Step 18: Built up two more layers of colour. Not too fussed how the inside of the wheel looks in terms of finish as it won't be seen much!

CIMG4008.jpg

Step 19: Light dusting to the face of the wheel.
Step 20: Building of layers of paint with rub down between each (wet 1200 paper). Leaving about 20 mins between coats of paint.

THOUGHTS... Not sure how many layers of paint is enough on the face of the wheels? (There are about 4 good layers at the moment!) How long should I leave them before getting them back on the car?

 liking that!

maybe its the light / camera, but it doesn't look as if its a full cover coating, because of the "lightness" of the colour......... but if you've got 4 coats on there then i imagine it must be fully covered

looks good though!!!

i'd leave them a couple or 3 days for the paint to go truely hard to be honest....its damp and cool at the moment so it will take longer to go off than the can states.

Cheers mate. Yeah, the camera isn't great and has picked up the light shining off some of the rim's spokes! They look much better in real-life though... [:@]

I guess I will have to leave them for a few days now then! Problem is going to be finding time to get them back on the car now... Will get pictures up as soon as they are on the car again. :funk:

You do need time! I'm just lucky I have had this week to get them done. You can do it a little at a time, in evenings or something! I definitely think its worth having a go at refurbing them though! I guess the hardest part is prepping the wheels beforehand. I haven't gone for show quality finish with the curb marks, just made sure they are all pretty smoothed out. Give it a go, if I can do it I'm sure you can! ;)

Teaser...

Just a teaser of the finished alloy wheels... ;) I have to say, they do look chuffing good!

Centre badge is just resting on the wheel and not "clicked-in" so it looks a bit odd. Photo taken in near dark (just now!) More to follow...

They look great Mike! Don't rush to get the tyres put back on though! I'd wait atleast 5 days for the paint to fully cure. 3 days if you get a heater or something in front of them :)
