hi, i have a leon 19.9tdi se 2001, recently i have been getting a grinding noise (metal on metal sound) when i turn right and low speeds, very noticeable at roundabouts.

i have replaced the front pads and discs as these were worn and wondered if had warped discs but the noise is still there?

coukld it be my wheel bearings? or any other ideas?

thanks

dan

The metal plate behind the discs might be catching on one side, poke a screwdriver through to push it back slightly then road test it.

That sounds more like a CV joint to me rather than a wheel bearing? Get your wheels on full lock and have a poke at the gaitor, see if it's cracked or leaking.

It could be a wheel bearing, but the noise would be worse at high speeds.

A worn cv joint makes a clicking noise not a metal grinding noise, its a 6 piece bearing so there are gaps between the ball bearings - hense the clicking, if its so far gone that its turned to swarf and mush then it might make a grinding noise but the car wont be driveable.
