I've read in a few threads about the DSG learning your driving style. Is this correct? Do the gear changes etc actually alter when the car gets used to the way you drive??

Yes, the dsg can learn your driving style. When i first got my car, it would downshift very easily and stay in higher rpm, but now it has adjusted and it is perfect.
Also, i friend got his the same with me and he has a completely different driving style. When we drive each others car (both are 150ps fr) they feel like different cars.

Interesting. I didn't notice this on my Cupra. Maybe I will after a few thousand kilometers.But I still didn't try the "S" mode...we will see what happens then...it sounds nice from 3000 to 4000 rpm though.
I am not sure if mine has. its a great gearbox tho. I only wish there was a way of setting where the downshift happens, as mine lets the engine revs get very low, to the point of the engine labouring, before changing down.

Yep you can, but the 'auto' mode should at least work properly. If I had wanted a manual I would have bought one eh. Wish it had paddles too lol

Sport mode will not improve much, it continues to change gears high and keeps high rpm. D mode is the most usefull and relaxing as it will learn your driving style. Tsi engines work better on low to middle rpm so D is the ideal choise.
The poor reviews are about the dsg changing gears early !!! But thats not true. If they dont liked this, they could just use the paddles !!!
And also, test drive cars are driven agresively and by diferent people so the dsg function is not the best it could be.
When driving in "D" mode it changes gears from first to second in a moment,especially when the car is not warmed up, that is perfect.
But when you push the throttle more it doesn't change at 2000 or 2500 rpm as ussualy.It will push in that gear until you dont't let go the throttle a little bit. That is also good.

D mode is ace, you can cruise about on minimal throttle and it will change gear as soon as it can. Thus saving your fuel. If you give the throttle a go, i.e. you need to overtake someone or someone has pee'd you off, it will respond and push to higher rev ranges depending on the amount of throttle given. Some tit in a blue Corsa VXR was pestering me today and in 'D' I floored it. It went like a rocket, pushing to 6,000rpm then changing gear, I slipped it back into 'S' and made sure I left him for dead. Damn I luv my Bocanegra. It's a breeze to drive. I'm proud to own it.

I'm still waiting for my chance to prove to someone in what they think is a quick car just what the cupra can do.
