Hi guys and gals,

Just a quick question... I've just got a new car and plan to wash it about once a week but dont have any equipment (i do have access to a hose)

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CAR-CLEANING-STARTER-KIT_W0QQitemZ390105134699QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item5ad413f66b

Is this starter kit the best choice for me? Or is it better to buy it all seperatly (planning to spend less than £100)

Any advice much appreciated!

Looks like a cracking deal to me. Everyone raves about the snow foam lances and I've got one on my Christmas list. I've seen the lance and snow foam for £50+, so the extra stuff and free P&P for £25 more is well worth it IMO.

Heard nothing but praise and good reviews about Auto Rae Chem also.

Good Luck.

Brilliant thanks guys!

Looks like i'll be getting this then!

Sorry for the obvious lack of knowledge but can i just check a few things....

it comes with:

Snow foam and lance, wash mitt, wheel cleaner and wax rinse.

- On a weekly cycle will i need any other products like shampoo and wax etc?

- what order should i use these products in to get the best result? any tips?

- is a good quality chamois the best way to dry the car?

- do i still use 2 bucket method for snow foam?

Cheers in advance!

Depends how far you want to take things... IMO you'll need the following as well.

2 x buckets (1 wash, 1 rinse)
1 x shampoo
1 x wash mitt (another 1 so you'll have 2)
1 x assorted detail brushes (for cleaning the wheels and trim)
dump the idea of a chamois, get yourself either a waffle weave or MF drying towel.

you'll also need some spray bottles to hold diluted wheel cleaner in.

read as many guides as you can... if you need more help just ask

Thats a good read right there! cheers.

I think i've got the technique down now.

That does look like a good deal but i think will over complicate things a bit for me with all those different washes!

Think ill stick to the AUTO RAE-CHEM starter kit

Can you possibly recommend a website where i can get decent buckets, wash mitt, brushes etc all in one place and delivered?

Also can you recommend a desent shampoo to use, AUTO RAE-CHEM do this shampoo..

is this one ok to use or you reckon get a better quality one?

Also about the wax, you get this one in the kit...

do you reckon it would be a good idea to get a better suited one for a black car in the winter to use with/instead of?

And FINALLY.. to use a snow foam lance is it best to get a pressure washer? if so is one like this ok?

To use a snowfoam lance, you'll need the supporting pressure washer to suite. (make sure you get the right connection for the lance that is going to fit with the pressure washer)

RE Wax, for black cars, I like to use Victoria Concours. Might be worth looking at a glaze, too. Something like Poorboys Black Hole. Just gives it a bit more depth and shine... (Wash > clay > Polish/cleanse > glaze > Wax)

Have a read of my Dummies Guide that I wrote for aftercare services.. Let me know if it's of any use to you.

Also, check out the Black Audi S3 I detailed a few months back - might be of interest to you.

Hope this helps.

Jim.

I cant check eBay items from work unfortunately so cant comment on those but i can recommend the following

http://www.carwashnwax.com/ - These guys do everything you need and more... their wash starter kits are excellent and for the money offer very high quality goods. As i mentioned before, ideally you'll want 2 buckets.

http://www.carnaubawaxshop.co.uk/ - I think it's Ben that runs RubbishBoys... simply cannot fault his customer service and he lists all of the DoDo Juice products currently on sale which again, i cannot rate highly enough. He does do kits which save you a bit as well.

http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/ - Used Tim a lot for products over the years, once you've registered you also gain points when you buy things. Points = Pounds which you can then use to buy kit or reduce the cost of an order.

To be totally honest there isnt really a lot in it products wise when your looking at spending what i would call mid markey money on detailing products. There is also quite a few that punch well into the so called high end products ranges as well where your going to spend a fortune for a brand or specific product. My best advise is to read as many guides and detailing related forums as you can, dont rush into spending money and see what other people are using and the results they are achieving. Then, buy the products you need to do the jobs you want to complete at a price that you are happy with... a lot of the time its about trial and error when trying new or unfamiliar products. Take your time and if you dont get the results you were expecting, take some pics and come back to let us know... a lot of the time i've seen people throw good products away because they havent used them correctly or prepared the car in the right way.

Jim has pretty much covered everything else i think !? If not, come back and we'll see what you need
