Hi people just wanted to see how many miles i could get on my seat ibiza 1.2,
A full tank cost me 40 pounds and ding mototrway driving as well as city driving and i have done 330 miles and the red light is on is that good ?

How many miles do you think i can get when the red light shows, as it always comes on at a 1/4 of a tank :s

Thanx

yeah 330 miles is pretty decent for the 1.2, i used to average 300 but now i average 350 since servicing. i have seen somebody get 400 out of the 1.2, not sure how though :)

why not talk in litres rather than money then we can have a more realistic view of what you are using / mpg..

lets assume you are paying 106.9 per litre..
thats 37.418 litres
and 8.232 gallons.

so 330 miles for £40 of fuel gives you 40.09 mpg. which is pretty good. not fantastic, you could certainly get more, but we dont really know what sort of driving you do, town driving kills mpg.

yep lets talk in litres! i always put 40 litres of deisel in my pd100 and run it 10 miles or so in the red zone and get around 370-380 miles of london stop/ start driving. I put an uncomfortable 36 psi in my low profile tyres to milk the economy as much as possible tho.

id be pretty happy with any where between 300- 350 mpg these cars seem more appealing and £40 to fill the tank cant be moaned at ! and alex 17's leon is actually stunning!

I usually get about the 400 mark to a tank with my 1.2, filled up today and it wasn't even empty and I'd done 412... I usually run for about a day after the light and the BEEEEP [:@] comes on...

Click my sig for the numbers...

from reading that i assume you know a formula for working out how many MPG your car gets, i want to work out how many miles per gallon i am getting but dont know a forumula, could you tell me it please :) cheers.

no problem.

This is what you do.
Firstly you need to fill the tank and reset the trip to record miles covered while you use this tankful.
Then simply use the car until you need to fill the tank again. Fill it up to the same point as before, (ie full).
Note the litres used to fill the tank and miles covered.

Then you can work out the mpg.

Many people use 4.5 litres = 1 gallon. But i use 5 litres = 1.1 gallons as this is slightly more accurate and im my head its easier to work out the gallons.

lets use an example of 300 miles covered and 40 litres used:

Take the number of litres used to fill the tank, divide it by 5 and multiply by 1.1 to convert litres into gallons.
Eg 40 divided by 5 is 8. Multiplied by 1.1 is 8.8 gallons.

Then simply take the miles covered and divide by the number of gallons.
Eg 300 miles covered, divided by 8.8 gallons is 34.1 mpg. (to 1dp)

or in short:
(40/5)*1.1=8.8
300/8.8 = 34.091 (or 34.1) :)

the alternative is:
40/4.5= 8.889
300/8.889 = 33.750 you can see this gives a slightly different amount as the litres to gallon conversion is not as accurate. (but shorter).

My 1.2 52 gets me roughly over 100 miles on 1/4 of a tank so I get about 300 miles before the light comes on, but I feel the tank sensor is off as it comes on when I hit 1/4 tank
