My chinese unit does not hold gps signal i have to find satellite signal each time i switch on ignition is this normal for these units or have i done something wrong

all gps have to get a fix on the satellites when they are switched on, just like a kettle wont boil water unless its switched on.
how long it takes to get a fix is a different matter.

I have found something to try **For those that are having this problem with the GPS receiver not being automatically detected each time the iGo is run, follow these simple steps:
-Open up iGo and go to Settings -> GPS
-Click on the AUTODETECT which will automatically find your GPS receiver.
-After it is detected, write down the PORT and BAUD values.
-Place the GPS SD card in your computer and navigate to the sys.text file in the iGo8 folder
-Find the header labeled: [gps].
-Underneath this header, it will have: port="x" and baud="x"
-Replace the values in sys.txt with the values you found in the GPS unit after doing the Autodetect.

This will ensure that it defaults to the correct port and settings to find the GPS receiver each and every time you load the software.

How reliable do those with the units installed find them? Both hardware, and software. I've had Windows Mobile 5.0 on a phone before and it wasn't exactly great in terms of stability...

It all works fine now a few teething troubles but that might be because i am not that bright these days.Radio is not the best i have heard the sat nav now works great with igo8 ,Bluetooth is spot on Dvd plaver is excellent, not tried TV yet because i am sure what to do with the tv antena and have ordered a rearview camera so that is the next thing to try out more on that when it arrives

I'm thinking of buying one of these Waywell 6050 units myself, as the RNS510 is still too expensive for me...
...so to all those guys that fitted the these units earlier in this thread, how are you liking them now after living with them for a while..?
Any more issues with them or reliability problems..?
When it comes to routing the GPS antenna, where is the best place and is it necessary to remove the climate control unit ?..as shown in another thread I think...as that part worries me a bit...

..oh yeah has anybody bothered connecting an aerial for the DTV and how well does that function work...same for the rear camera..?

well i have the unit for some time, absolutely no troubles... everything works as a charm... even on -12 degrees celsius :) I'm very satisfied with it...
as for routing gps antenna... i did that behind glovebox then round behind dash and put the antenna in front of climatronic sun sensor just behind windshield on center... can't see any cabling that way and it looks as factory mounted (with small piece of double velcro tape on bottom)... :D

Thanks for the update bqd..I'm pretty much decided on buying one of these units now.

Presumably you had to remove the climate control unit to be able to run the attenna ...?...how easy is it to do that and replace again...still looks a bit tricky to me..:-o

actually not... didn't even touch climate control :) only thing dismantled was glovebox in order to route cables easily (3 or 4 screws to remove it, cna't remember)... gps antenna cable is pretty long so there was more than enought to go around dash :)

well there are several part numbers for bezel (colour and stuff) it would be best to go to dealer and to see there when you order which one will suit your car :) you can do install yourself it is easy... 1 hour top... :D

My GPS antenna was put into the interior light compartment and worked flawlessly. Was very easy to fit and the hardest part of the whole job was getting the glove-box out!

It didnt work when I tried, but some people on here have said that it worked for them.

The volume controls worked, as did the next/previous track buttons

volume and track work... phone don't... but if you re-code car to disable factory bluetooth i think other buttons will work also... don't know about restyle steering wheel as it has different type of commands...
