I got Mobil 1 5 litres of 5W-30 from Halfords for £38 on special offer a few weeks ago. This is enough for a full oil change inc top up as the engine capacity is 4.5 litres but most places sell the bottles at 4L so your forced to spend another £10-15 just to have enough.

Get a Green cotton panel filter and you won't have to keep changing it every service interval, just a clean.

I've mostly used Quantum Synta Gold, last lot was £27 for 5 litres, supplied by TPS who are a VW/Seat/Skoda/Audi OEM spares supplier. This has apparently been superseded by Quantum Synta Platinum which vwspares.co.uk will deliver 5 litres for £30.

Just done my plugs, oil and pollen filter (1st one I renewed looked like it had been in since the invasion of Omaha beach) get mine serviced each year & also do it myself in between.

Never drive hard when the engine is cold is a very good previous tip.
PS are you anywhere near sunny Brecon ?
