Cc when going up hill applies a lot of power to maintain speed .
no it doesn't  it applies sufficient power to maintain speed and anyone who can do better is a fibber:lol: or slows down, see how many other people you pass on the motorway going up with cruise on, and they will pass you going down hill-probably, one of my favorite pastimes is just watching the boost guage gently react to the CC it's awork of art(must remember to watch the road):ban: I can't do better with an accelerator

My CC antisapates hills very well in deed, whilst going up and down some quite steep hills my speed will only change by 1-2 MPH tops. My car has no fancy lasers on the front, just regular CC that prods the gas or lifts off as required as smooth as silk.
As i said before I drive 45k ish a year and one year I had an Astra derv 150 with no CC and got 42MPG average over the tax year. The next year I had an Astra derv 150 with CC and got 54MPG average for the tax tear. "FACT"

All I can say is there must be a very high percentage of the worlds most superhuman, skilled drivers that can do better than electronics congregated on this forum.

Next they will be saying that they don't need an Ipod cos they can sing the songs better themselvs

Exactly how much better MPG do you guys reckon you can get over CC anyway? One or two MPG by rolling down hills in neutrel? I can do that if I feel tike being a geek too.

CC is so shite that if you do a search on SCN you will find no threads on how to retrofit it at all :fool:

I think Nath you have just shot yourself in the leg .

If your getting 42 avrage it just proves your not very skilled driver as that figure is shocking for a diesel !
Mine produces similar power and my average is well over 55 and I like the odd race or two.

Many people here are running 180ish bhp with their tdi’ s and average way way more mpg FACT!

It just proves your not driving very well without cc maybe to harsh on the pedal
Obviously cc will improve mpg with a less skilled driver

what about the poorly skilled CC user?

cc on, brake, cc resume, brake, cc resume etc

You might not be the expert driver you think you are, just crap at using CC :)

crap at using cc? you put it on the motorway and thats it ?
come on people

its not designed for town use
im clearly stating in my experience cc is not for me
in mine test it used more no ifs no buts?
on a flat road yes it may be better
but this is England and ist not that flat!
my bothers superb tdi
and a8tdi tell the same story
and the a8tdi driver is a advanced driver too

42MPG for an Astra H 150 derv with about 150 kilos of tools and spares in the boot (probably overloaded TBH) is OK in my book, 54MPG with CC is amazing.

I wasn't one of the tiny minority saying that I reckon I am superhuman and could do better than CC. I'm one of the millions of drivers that find CC worth the money and good on fuel, we can't all be wrong. So My leg is pain free thanks all the same.

As said, I reckon the peeps saying they can do better are the ones who don't have it, a bit like the fog light warriors that drive a 1.2 with no fogs, their just gutted.

Maybe we should make a poll to the original question and only let people vote who can prove that they actually have CC, with a pic that has a newspaper in it showing the date. :cartman:

Oh BTW my wife and my best mate are both members of the IAM and they don't have any problems with my driving thanks all the same.

You deffo can be crap at using CC, you can hit a 70 resume in 6th gear at 30MPH.

You can hit resume whilst simultaneously flooring the gas and the CC will resume at full throttle and overshoot the required speed.

You can attempt to set a speed whilst only doing 1200RMP.

Or you can just over use it and constantly be hitting resume, brake, resume, brake.

you can **** it up well easy, maybe you did.

Methinks you may have shot yourself in YOUR foot.

How many motorways do you know of that have steep hills, hardly any I reckon as they cut into the hills so that they aren't too steep for the trucks.

CC on a motorway with good mirror use and anticipation/lane control so that you stay on the CC wins every time.

Just to add to my theory that cc uses more here’s a bit more evidence
And just to add to the previous comment there are a lot of motorways that are not flat! try driving up north ! I can bet there’s more motorway that’s not flat!
This explains it very well
And by the way iv got cc

Here comes the science bit

Advantages and disadvantages
Some of those advantages include:
Its usefulness for long drives across sparsely populated roads. This usually results in better fuel efficiency.
Some drivers use it to avoid unconsciously violating speed limits. A driver who otherwise tends to unconsciously increase speed over the course of a highway journey may avoid a speeding ticket. Such drivers should note, however, that a cruise control may go over its setting on a downhill which is steep enough to accelerate with an idling engine.
However, cruise control can also lead to accidents due to several factors, such as:
The lack of need to maintain constant pedal pressure, which can help lead to accidents caused by highway hypnosis or incapacitated drivers; future systems may include a dead man's switch to avoid this.
When used during inclement weather or while driving on wet or snow- and/or ice-covered roads, the vehicle could go into a skid (although this may be somewhat mitigated by cars equipped with Electronic Stability Control). Stepping on the brake — such as to disengage the cruise control — often results in the driver losing control of the vehicle.
Driving over "rolling" terrain, with gentle up and down portions, can usually be done more economically (using less fuel) by a skilled driver viewing the approaching terrain, by maintaining a relatively constant throttle position and allowing the vehicle to accelerate on the downgrades and decelerate on upgrades, while reducing power when cresting a rise and adding a bit before an upgrade is reached. Cruise control will tend to overthrottle on the upgrades and retard on the downgrades, wasting the energy storage capabilities available from the inertia of the vehicle. The inefficiencies from cruise control can be even greater relative to skilled driving in hybrid vehicles.
Many countries establish that it is illegal to drive within city limits with the cruise control feature activated.[citation needed]

Now that last paragraph backs my argument very well.

^^^^It is indeed your theory and you may well feel that it's correct but it isn't for thousands of people that buy CC time and time again. You will never convince me as I have seen the proof with my own eyes. You will not stop me using my CC, I will continue to use it every day on my 200 ish mile round trip for work as it gives better MPG and gives me a stress free drive and that keeps me, my wife and my boss happy. I will never have a car ever again that doesn't have CC of some sort.

To go back to the OP's original question though.....

I am well documented to have had a mk4 Ibiza with CC and I can tell the OP with confidence that it is a very very worth while thing to have on a mk4 Ibiza. That's the last I have to say on the matter and as far as I'm concerned the matter is closed and the pro CC peeps are right.

Good night.

Cruise control is brilliant I went to Bournemouth last year and 60mph on cruise I got over 80mpg in the fr and I usually get over 40 on other runs, it's brilliant if u are in speed camera zones
