Is my TIP loose?

Hi all. I was having a fiddling with the car, searching for a boost leak and I think I might have found it. I put my hand down the underside of the TIP (THS) until I could feel where it connected to the turbo, it feels like the TIP is on at an angle with one side sitting snug and the other slightly moved out. The pipe is defintely on the turbo, I can't feel any gaps and can't pull it away from the turbo either but there is some oil on the TIP where it connects to the turbo, could I have found a boost leak? Just to add, there isn't alot of oil, it's not dripping (under-tray is dry etc) but it's noticable seeing as the rest of the TIP is bone dry.

Mmm, im not expert on the cupra R, but you want to be careful with that if there is, two people i know who have cupra R's both of their tips were split and turbo was sucking in straight air (not filtered) and eventually the turbos knackered. Just something to watch out for mate, I know its not the answer you was looknig for, sorry for spamming lol

Lol no worries. Believe me I have thought about that too but I can't feel a split and the TIP is defintely seated on the turbo but there may be a 1 or 2mm gap where it's a little lop sided. I can't tell from looking at it from the top so i'll take it to my dad's garage on the weekend and put it on a ramp.

Got a THS TIP on my LCR and they do feel funny how they fit to the turbo and look like they are on the wonk when looking from above. I went as far as having a mirror in there to check it and all ok on mine.

Could be worth whipping it off, 20min job or 10 min if you an reach with out jacking car up, and if split or leaking will have a nice black streak by where it connects.

Can't expalin the oil but I would say the wonkyness is normal. :)

The oil is the worry but then again it's not a copious amount. I can;t see how it would get there if there wasn't a split or leak unless I lubed it when doing the service. I wiped it dry yesterday so i'll check it again later.

Thanks for the info on the THS though, hoefully it is fitted as intented, certainly isn't moving around on the turbo, all nice an tight as far as I can tell.

It won't be a boost leak, because that side of the turbo isn't under boost. I think you can get issues with unmetered air getting in (also, unfiltered) though.

With my forge one i found it really hard to get it square on but after i fitted it i checked with a mirror so that the the pipe butted right up against the turbo and the jubilee was straight.

If you don't have a catch can it will be block pressure bleed oil.
This is directed into the TIP just after the MAF

So how would this oil get on the outside of the pipe? If it wasn't seated on the turbo correctly?

It won't be a boost leak, because that side of the turbo isn't under boost. I think you can get issues with unmetered air getting in (also, unfiltered) though.

Ahhh ok but if unmetered air was getting it, would that affect performance?

Just checked and where I wiped it clean yesterday and then drove it, it feels greasy again on the bottom end. I can't find any other explanation than it's not sitting right. Can anyone offer an other advise/explanation before I pull the thing to pieces?
