I have a bottle of 05-40 fully synth laying about in the garage, would this be suitable for my LCR?

Theoretically, on paper, if the the spec is right then yes

Go with some Millers XFS 5w40, don't cost a whole lot more, but its a name that the motorsport world trust.

I've taken my Cupra to National Tyres the last two times, by ordering online you can get it down to £30 for a filter and oil change and you can specify from a number of Castrol oils, Castrol Edge being the one it selects for you.
The alternative is spending much more on buying the oil myself!

Thanks, I already have the oil anyway, IIRC the oem oil is only semi-synth so it should exceed that spec?
When SEAT service LCR's, they'll stick in 10w 40 semi-synthetic unless you specify otherwise. Should be fine to use I would have thought, just not as good as some of the better brands I guess.
I'm not mechanically minded but the 'spec' would be down to the additives required for the specific engine as I understand it (I think Opie Oils on here could explain it and has a thread on the matter)
The manual says something along the lines of must meet spec of VAG xxxx. If you look at Castrol Edge as an example it will say it meets VAG spec xxxx
Again i'm not going by any sort of knowledgeable experience, just what i've read

Thats great to know, didn't know about this service they offered.
Just checked on National website & you're absolutely right - £30.60 to change oil & filter if ordered online, plus £5.95 if you want an engine flush too.
Well worth the price & saves all the hassle & mess of doing it yourself, great for a "between service" oil change.

I came across it last year when I was looking for the cheapest place to get oil. To buy Castrol Edge you'd have to buy more than enough a 4l bottle and a 1 litre bottle. At the time that came in at almost £60 + the cost of the filter say £4.50 and then your labour. It was no contest!
You must book it online though as the rates in store are much higher not just 10% higher as the site suggests (as you get the 10% off for ordering online).
A few people have commented that they probably put any old oil in but I find it hard to believe a company as large as that would take the risk! Besides I watched them draw it from a huge Castrol barrel

@OFI - Thanks for that - unfortunately, I've just bought 5 litres of Edge for my LCR and upcoming full service - but will bear this in mind for the next oil change that I need to do! Cheers
