Is shown in EKTA for Leon under
5P0 857 511 D and
5P0 857 511 E (for vehicles with rain sensor) in
Pearl Grey (Y20)
Satin Black (9B9) for Cupra

Has a cable and connector......but what it needs to be plumbed into, and whether it is
already in the stock headlining is anybody's guess

Bad news guys, the auto dipping mirror is £162 from the stealers.

Watch this space for a less than £1 12v red LED mod to the regular mirror

Yes, Nath - got a non-Cupra model (06) with convenience pack and have the red lighting. Gives a nice subtle red glow across the centre console.

Any news on this Nath? ;)

Just seen this photo:

Very interested in a diy :)

I think the LEDs would be the easy part. Hard part is the wireing! I would want them to come on with my sidelights.

How do the standard ones work? are they on all the time or..??

I'm off on holiday on sunday morning but will lookinto this a bit more when I come back.

I have looked at my mirror and it looks easy to pop open, then drill 2 holes and fit 2 LEDS. I reckon on getting 2 red 12v leds and wire them up to the interior map reading lights as I think they have an ignition switched live.

I think you are right with that.

These could be idea for the job.

Just fix the mounts onto the inner side of the mirror, pointing out through two drilled holes. And then connect to the ceiling lights circuit.

My A3 has the red LEDs built into the top centre console near the map reading lights - it's a really nice feature.

On the A3, they're linked off the lights, but I don't think they'd be a problem linked off the ignition - I doubt you's even notice them being on in daylight.

It's just a shame that the Leon doesn't have illuminated switches for the map reading lights....

Ive decided to go for a DIY job!

I was originally going make the LED's come on with side lights only, but instead i have decided to go for a switch live, so that they come on with ignition.

In the fusebox, there are a few unoccupied slots, so i checked them out and found one which is in fact a switched live.

With that sorted, i ran my wireing across the roof, and down the drivers A pillar. I did this by pulling off the alarm sensor cover and feeding the wire through there, across the top of the headlining. I then pulled it out from the headlining above the drivers door, and went on to feeding it down the A pillar. I used a snake to pull the cable through this final part. It comes down the small section of the a pillar, the narrow bit closest to the driver if that makes sense.

The mirror comes off easier than expected, although you must use some force. I will post take photos of this when i go back to fit the LED's. Inside the mirror, on the ball that swivels, the centre is hollow for a wire to run down inside, again i will try to photograph this later.

As for mounting the leds, i bought two convex plastic 5mm holders from maplin. I will drill out two holes on the underside of the mirror housing, and then hot glue the mounts into position. This way the LEDs will be sunken into the mirror and will not be directly visible.

Havent finished yet, as i am waiting on some high power red LED's to come thorugh the post, but with these postal strikes, i dont know if i'll ever get them

Will take photos when i go back to complete it.

Oh, and also going to get an inline fuse for it tomorrow.

Sounds good mate, you don't hang about do you?

I am moving house now that I'm back off of holiday so I'm very busy. I look forward to browsing your pics and I intend to copy your ideas if you don't mind.

I Think the interior light has a 12v ignition switched live for the map reading lights so maybe no need to run wiring to the fuse box, just connect up to the map reading lights, permenently earth them and they will be on with ignition.

I couldnt for the life of me get the map reading lights out of the ceiling!!! So i opted for this instead.

Just got a 3amp fuse and inline holder. Ive also got bullet connectors so i can simply plug the leds in when they come.

Will try and get photos of the mirror when i get a chance, got a very busy weekend ahead!

Total cost:

10x Bright 12v Red LED's - £3.29 (phenoptix - ebay) (a bit of an over kill here, could pass some on to you guys)
2x Plastic LED mounts - £0.90 (Maplin)
2m 3amp cable - £1.18 (Maplin)
1x Inline fuse holder - £2.49 (Maplin)
1x 3amp blade fuse - £0.56 (Halfords)

Total: £8.42

I have a small selection of connectors to hand as well, but these are only cheap, if you do not have them.

I think this, a touch of quality & class for the audi over the leon :(
