I was out cleaning the car this morning and found it a little chilly which got me thinking about the forthcoming winter. Im new to this detailing stuff so thought Id pick your brains.

What do you guys do during the winter months? Do you change your cleaning process?

Not really... only thing i do is make sure i use a harder wearing wax. This is applied in October and then after every other wash the car gets a wipe down with DoDo Juice Red Mist sealant to keep the durability up.

I know a lot of the guys over on DW use different waxes, shampoos and wheel cleaners / sealants during the winter months but to be honest, if your going to clean the car once a week or so its not really required.

During winter periods I wouldnt really put a wax on. Sealants have a much longer life than waxes due to them being synthetic. What your probably best doing is cleaning the car very well and putting on a good sealant. This should see the car through the winter months. For added protection you can top it up with wax mid winter.

You could also clean the car well, wax it and then put a spray sealant over the top so you get the best of both worlds. Becareful as a lot of spray sealants have solvents which eat the wax.

What harder wearing wax would you recommend?

Collinite 476s is a very durable wax.

As JonJay has said, sealants also make an effective barrier.

Leaving a wax 48+hrs to fully cure and then covering with a sealant like DoDo Red Mist or Zaino Z8 would give the ultimate in durablility and the finish would look pretty special too !

You mean apply the wax and let it set for 48 hrs before removing?

I need to machine polish the beeza but going to use Klasse All-In-One and then top with Werkstatt. Everytime I wash the car I can top it up with the Werkstatt sealant, probably take about 10 mins as it's wipe on/wipe off.
