Hi,

Been a while, just a quick question.

My daughter has a 1.4 Seat Ibiza 53 plate, I just checked the oil and very low.

The last time topped up (full) was 6 months ago and only 2k miles done since,45k on the clock.

Now I just dashed to halfords and got 2l at £16.99....5w 30, put just over 1L in and will check dip stick tomorrow and put rest in if required.

Question: is it normal for the oil to go low after 2k (car used mainly for short journeys).

The oil only registered at the bottom of the dip stick.

I had a Seat Ibiza 1.4 P reg up untill 6 months ago and never had to top the oil up.

Thanks

ok will check tomorrow evening.

Put in just over one litre, the guy in Halfords said the car will take 4 litres if empty.

Nath thanks for your reply

Hi,
Question: is it normal for the oil to go low after 2k (car used mainly for short journeys).

Thanks

Unfortunately the modern engines like to be up to temperature so yes it is possible for an engine only doing short trips to use more oil

Could be that you have an oil leak
Could be that the engine is burning oil (blue smoke on startup)
Could be that you had cheap nasty mineral oil in the engine, this stuff can boil away

years ago I foolishly used Halfords cheap nasty £2.99 for 5liters oil in my mk3 escort, I was convinced that I had a leak or something. than on a friends advice I drained it and went for Castrol GTX or whatever it was, the engine didn't use a drop after that.

Well checked it tonight and after just one litre top it seems just right.

Will keep me eye on it.

So with the dip stick reading nothing one litre seems right.

Thanks all
