Hi all

I want to get all my 4 wheels realigned and camber checked out. When I bought the car the guy who inspected it before i bought it suggested I take it to a realignment specialist rather than to a Kwik-Fit type place to get this sorted.

I went on this site http://www.alignmycar.co.uk/ which people on her have been suggesting to find a good local place. Rang them today and to check the 4 wheel alignment they want to charge £135 + VAT and then for any alterations an additional £35 + VAT.

That seems rather expensive to me. Is there much difference between having it done at a place like this to a place like Kwik Fit or similar type place that would probably charge £60-£70? or will they be doing pretty much the same thing?

I paid £50 + vat at local VAG specialist, my tyres all wear evenly and had no problems?

Laser alignment is laser alignment as far as im concerned, give kwik fit a try!!

That is such a wrong statement.

Proper 4 wheel alignment compared to say kwik fit is like the difference between night and day.

Surely it shouldnt be advertised a 4 Wheel Laser Alignment then?

i.e laser alignment is the mutts nuts and will give results each time, so you would expect a certain standard?!

any fool can buy an expensive snap-on spanner and tool kit but doesn't mean he knows how to use it

I just assumed laser aligning was like putting up a shelf with a spirit leverl/laser level, pretty hard to get wrong??

I dunno lol

If you say alignment to Kwik $hit that to them is tracking, which only does toe.

Full alignment should be a lot more expensive and does toe, camber, caster etc.....

Avoid Kwik Fit they are :w4nk:

people flame me for it, but ill say it again.

there is a whole difference in what 4 wheel alignment means.. for many places, often those that seem to charge more reasonable rates, its 4 wheel alignment is simply aligning all wheels. Much the same as tracking, but the difference being they do the tracking aligned with the rear wheels.

Then there is 4 wheel alignment that takes into account camber etc.. much more involved.

crappy wheel alignment is when they attach the laser to the rear wheel and point it at the thing they've attached to the front wheel or vice versa. However for some cars like the Ibiza, this is a bit no no because you can't adjust the rear wheels, so if your rear wheels are out they adjust them to be aligned with them which is bollocks!!!

When I had my suspension done unfortunately the place I was at couldn't do it and I got an alignment done in Reading at Hi-Q, I then drove back to bristol and got it done at Protyre who do a proper 4 wheel alignment, they showed me how they'd aligned it in Reading and how much it was out by so I then had to pay Protyre to sort it out. I went back to Hi-Q and got my money back after showing them the print out that Protyre gave me....I can't recommend them enough!

any idea how much they charge for wheel alignment mate?
I *think* about £75 - but if they only need to adjust your toe angle they'll just charge you around £35 usually.

They'll give you the full before/after printouts, which Tony says any good place should give you afterwards.

Nice one. Sounds reasonable and seems like they probably know what they're doing so will give them a go.

Thanks for your help chaps. :)

Don't think kwik fit do 4 wheel laser alignment, or at least I've never seen them do it. My nearest place does it for around £40 and thats with them mounting a device on all four wheels and then working on them with a computer calculating camber and tracking etc.
