Cupra R Door problem

Hi

I have an issue with the door on my Cupra R 225.

The rear passenger side door is very tempermental and sometimes will not open.

When i try to open the door after it has been locked for a while the door wont open yet i can drive for about 5 minutes, get out of the car and open the door with no problems. I can then open and close it as much as i want but as soon as i lock it again and leave it the door will not open when i try to open it.

I have tried our lovely friend WD40 as it first seemed to be a sticky lock but it seems to be a little more than that.
Is the interior door panel easily removed or has anyone had or experiencing the same issues and found a solution???

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Back from the dead
Will it not open from :

1) the inside only
2) the outside only
3) both

Taking the interior door panels off is not a hard job from memory, pop the door handle centre out with a flat-blade screw driver, undo 2 large phillips screws at either end of the handle. then there are another couple of retainer screws on the edge of the door trim (not hinge side - outer edge), and maybe a couple underneath (?). Gently life trim upward off the bottom clips which hold it in place.

am i correct to presume it has the same issue whether you are trying to open it from the exterior or interior handle?

as far as im aware to remove rear door trims its just the door handle trim and the two srews within the handle that need to be removed. There are no screws along the bottom of the door trim as would be on front doors.

Simple use a larger flat head screw driver or something with a large flat head to lever off the trim, will take a bit of a pull but should come off fairly easily as its held in place with plastic clips, which with a bit of luck wont break. I suspect they are less likely to break if you pull the door trim from the door only a little bit from several palces rather than pulling from one place and letting the trim 'bend'. (hope that makes sense) (if you have an early leon cupra you then need to lift the door trim upwards and off the locking pin, but this is not a problem on the LCR)
The door trim will then be attached to the door via a few electrical connections:
speakers, interior door handle wire, (attached to handle via metal hook, but also make sure you note that the wire is fed through the little plastic bit with clip also.. easy to forget when reassembling). also connector for lower door light, electic window switch... they are all different connectors, so you wont get it wrong when reassembling. Just remember to do them all.

If you are having issues from both inside and out it may be the lock with will be a PITA.
Just inside.. id check that the wire connecting to the handle is connected correctly.
If just outside... when you pull the handle out, if you hold it in the outer postion you can see the wire connector.. this is adjustable, you could try moving this to take up any slack.

However i suspect it may be a different electrical based issue.

Hi

I wont open from either inside or outside. The strange thing is that it will work once the car has been going for a while. Take for example if i went to the local shops which is a 5-10 minute drive the door will open fine. Yet after locking it and coming back to it, it will not open from outside or inside.

Hi

What ever it is, its very frustrating. Especially as i have 2 young kiddies and having to get them to climb in 1 door is very annoying..

I will have to try to get the door panel off and see if it anything obvious but if anyone has any other ideas in the mean time please let me know

cheers

Sorry mate but i dont think its a simple fix and will most likely be a new door control module as if its tempremental to me thats the crap vag group electrics so id get a new one which is £92 from the stealers and 1hr -2 hr diy fitmet not overly difficult but a tad fiddly check out votex door module guide for full detailed instructions.

yea sounds like the solenoid is playing up and sticking.

check all the wiring to the control module try un doing the connector.
maybe a quick fix take the door card off and spray loads of WD40 all over the door lock and the control box.

Hello

Bringing back on old thread here - I have had the same problem as this for the last few months where occasionally both back door will not open which was annoying but....

Now my rear passenger door wont lock!!!! Key fob, in door and on door locks all will not work. I can't obviously take my car anywhere at mo now until I fix this and as cash is a problem at moment I just wondered if anyone else has has this problem and what have they done?

Also Lee did you ever resolve this?

Cheers

Just started having this problem on my drivers side door just on the external handle though, it's very intermittent. I have to use the key to unlock the door and then it's ok again, but i think it'll get worse.

I guess i'll probably have to take it to the stealers at some point :(
