Mk1 Cupra Tyre Problems

Evening all.

I have had issues with tyres for a while now, my last set were Pirelli P6000s that were horrid things and I will never have them again.

I had Brigestone Potenza RE050A's fitted back on the 31st May (10k Miles ago) and the fronts are worn badly in the middle again.

Backs are doing lovely, wearing just right.

I have never over-inflated my tyres, only to within the specs in the fuel filler lid.

I do mainly motorway/dual carriageway miles, around 100 miles a day.

I need a solution as I can't afford to keep changing front tyres every 10k!

Any help is MUCH apreciated

that is a bit odd cuz for centre to where does sound like over inflated. if your running the starfish wheels in avatar? shouldnt correct size be 215 45 17, maybe theres a dif in pressure between 215 and 225. not sure just a thought

Are you inflating them to the fully laden pressure? Definitely sounds like over inflated tyres maybe try running them a touch less still. I used to have potenzas on my escort and never had any issues at all on them, incidentally what are the pressures light and heavy load for the starfish alloys as I have added them to my car but my pressure sticker is for 16s.

My starfish alloys are also on 225 tyres which I think is correct

225 45 17 is definitely correct for starfish alloys....that was on mine from the factory.

does sound odd though that they're wearing in the middle.....especially if you have them at the pressures on the fuel cap like you say......odd.

As above wear in middle of tyre is due to over inflation. Are you checking tyre pressure when they are cold (not driven on) also is the tyre gauge calibrated properly If you are doing motorway driving (high speed) then the fully laden pressure should be used but then corrected back to normal when driving around town.

The correct size for star fish alloys is 225/45/17. As to the pressures for this size wheel it should be the same as the 205/55/16 you originally had on your car, iirc it should be 33psi front and think 30 or 33psi rear.
