Indicator Relay not clicking...

Hi All,

I would like to attempt fixing this myself if possible. I'm assuming the indicator relay (the dealer actually referred to this as the hazard relay) has gone, all lights controlled from the indicator arms work fine it’s just the audible click is no longer present, no biggie really but sometimes I do forget I’m indicating left or right when I’m driving straight on.

Can any point me to where this is located? Is it in the steering column, behind the hazard switch or radio, or somewhere else

Dealer wants to charge 60quid including part which seems rather expensive for what it is.

Not sure where it is but I would imagine it might be in you owners manual. When you locate the relay take it out and see if it smells burnt and/or has parts that sounds loose inside. If it is the relay at fault, just nip to a breakers yard, will prob cost around 5-10 quid

I think that some VAG cars have the "sounder" built into the dash pod - and that is what fails! I've only had the B5 Passat one fail and the hazard switch contains everything that can fail - well except for the stalk switch.

I've also got this problem, have done a google search and come up with no how to.
I've also noticed that the car doesn't screech to tell you headlights are still on when ignition is off and you've opened the door, so I reckon these 2 problems are connected, and the speaker has gone

I'd agree with that, I think that some one in one of these VAG forums, has successfully replaced the "speaker/beeper" using a part sourced from the likes of Maplin - maybe try the Skoda forum as they would be the guys most likely to find a way round replacing the dash!

Maybe change your search term to "VAG dash buzzer" or some thing like that.

I have the same problem - indicators, low fuel, headlight warning. It happened after my service so I assumed when they switched the beep off for the service reminder they'd switched the whole thing off.

don't bother replacing any parts. i had a similar problem on my leon.

pop down to a local auto store and buy yourself a can of electrical contact spray. (about £2.50 a large can)

spray the liquid down the end of the indicator stork on the steering wheel and work it in by moving the stork around - should fix your problem.

any other electrical problems always use the contact spray first! Fixed my dash lights, fixed my boot warning light, fixed my indicators, fixed my door lock and fixed my sisters mobile phone!

Hummmmm, I'd say that its "horses for courses" and by that I mean that the spraying cleaner down the stalk will sort out early VAG cars, as their switch contact areas tend to get covered in bits of copper or brass, with these newer cars, historically, its the actual sounder that gets goosed.

still, £2.50 and 30 secs work is worth a try before you start spending hours getting parts and pulling parts of the car about
