advice!! Colivovers or ????

Wanted some advice on a new suspension setup on a mk1 LCR1, as mines seems to be shocking in the wet espically!!! looking on awesome gti and jbs but not sure what to go for, any recomondations of what to go for? also budget is an issue but is it worth the compromise to buy the cheaper makes?

im in the same shoes as you mate,looking at coilovers or shocks+springs.

iv done some looking around, and you can get normal coilovers (with adjustable height) for around £300-500. and better coilovers with adjustable damper settings as well as height for £500-700...

then theres the shocks and springs route which combined iv seen some for around the £300-400 mark.

dont know what is better though!

With coilovers [even dampning adjustable ones] you will nearly always get a harsher ride than shocks and springs.....but on the up side your fully adjustable so can set height to what ever you want rather than where the springs settle..

Andy, What exactly are you trying to do? lower it, increase performance etc...
My experience is that tryes are usually the number one problem with handling in the wet and a heavy foot, after that u could look at strut braces/uprated bushes/ARBs/Coilovers.

It all depends on what you want to achieve, most of the cheap coilovers just increase damping and let you adjust the ride hieght of the car.

I've got coilovers. Had springs etc before but now i've had the coilovers i'd go with them every time. Mix them with a decent tyre and strut brace and you'll see a drastic improvement.

I've recently fitted some Weitec Coilovers to my LCR and all I can say is brilliant, and for £380 even better! I do a mixture of driving, living in the sticks, a lot of single track country lanes, a roads, and dual carriageway treks! On the back lanes the coilovers are brilliant, much less crashy than the standard suspension and feels more planted. A roads and dual carriageways the same story, just like driving a different car. It is firmer which some people may not get on with; but after spending numerous hrs an inch off the floor with no suspension it feels quite luxurious driving the LCR!!

OK,

Firstly u must have a decent set of tyres, there are loads of threads on here arguing with tyre is the best, stay clear of cheap budget crap.
After that i would noticed a big difference from a rear ARB and a front strut brace, this totally transformed the handling, then i added mid range coilovers to improve damping and to lower it.

U could go one step further and add new bushes and a front ARB.

there are plenty of threads on handling knocking around, the above is just what i have expierenced

yes mate, there are a few in my project thread which i think has worked it's way to page 2 of readers rides now. The knocking im thinking is going to be a ARB link or or wheel bearing possibly, should find out next Tuesday but It's not the suspension itself.

Thanks, I will check them out at home where pics aren't banned. I will wait to see what the problem is with yours before I make a purchase. I can't help feeling that the ride height might be causing something to knock and if that's the case, i'll need to add extra £££ to the budget if other things need doing.
