I used to be getting 150 miles to half a tank = £10 diesel . I put a tenner in yesterday and got 60 miles. My car is drinkin my diesel really quick im hardly getting any miles to half a tank.
what could it be . I havent changed my driving and been sticking to limits.
thanks hayley

A malfunctioning lambda sensor can cause the car to overfuel. That would maybe be the first avenue to investigate (along with checking for wee puddles of fluid to make sure the car's not leaking DERV, of course). Are there any secondary symptoms (e.g. not running as smoothly as before) or is it otherwise behaving itself apart from the drink problem?

£5 of DERV should be approximately five litres' worth; if you can travel 68 miles from that then you're getting 62 mpg ~ seems very reasonable to me, and closer to what you said you usually get in your original post.

Mind you, the stalling is obviously symptomatic of a deeper issue. Might be worth finding a garage that has diagnostic equipment, and they can see if error codes are being generated. It's not much of a help, but so many problems on modern cars are down to the electronics and whatnot...

Since you've been driving your TDI for a while now you'll be getting more confident in it and giving it more welly, also a rise in diesel price effects how much fuel your getting for your money. As gdlargy points out, over 60mpg is pretty good. The stalling bit is more worrying though.

Not to worry you unnecessarily, but are you sure everything's OK? You originally reported that you got 68 miles for a fiver. At that rate, £28.80 should get you 390+ miles' worth of fuel. So unless you're paying 30% more for DERV than before, your last fill-up wasn't quite up to scratch.

Maybe it's just the rising fuel prices, but I'd keep an eye on things if I were you, especially considering the stalling problem. You can use spritmonitor.de (see my sig) to track your fuel consumption, and petrolprices.com to get the cheapest fuel while you're at it.
