When I got my first car many years ago (Volvo 440 Turbo oh yes).I immediately changed the head unit put some replacement 6in speakers in the door and some 6x9 in the rear parcel shelf.
Thought I was the bees knees, I did.
Fast forward on a few years picked up a modified Rover 420 Turbo (touched by my mates magic hands). I transfered the speakers into that, but fitted the6x9 a bit more discretely. It ran on 17's, had limo tint all round, British racing green and somewhere a huge invisible
sticker telling the police that they should stop me and say hello on a regular basis.
It was subtle, but not enough. It had ruined it's Q car status.
Just picked up my latest car, first car I've bought in good 7 years or so. Looked at headunits straight away for MP3 compatibility, but never even thought about 6x9s in it.
Window tinting is a higher priority. Nothing extreme, a nice grey 30% tint. Don't need to draw attention to myself.
I see people driving by in their modified cars, stereo booming away, black windows all round, desperately wanting people to look at them. Craving attention, just so people look at their Citroen Saxo or whatever it is they drive.
Why on earth do I want to look at a Saxo?
Then I see a debadged Golf running on 19's with a light tint to the windows, possibly a discrete styling kit, maybe not.
I enjoy looking at that. I apperciate the subtly of it. The effort that somebody has put in to get his car different, but at the same time not screaming out like a kid with ADHD after drinking a bottle of Pepsi
I'm a Q car man. Always have been.
