Tdi 130 coolant temperature sensor - where is it?

Hi guys,

i know its been a common thing on the forums but ill ask everyone again.

Can anyone give me a picture where the coolant temperature sensor is pleeeeeeeease??

I drive a 2002 tdi sport 130 where the sensor is somewhere near the gearbox i think? A picture which one it is or at least a detailed description of what im looking for would be very grateful!

When im driving the temperature is normal but the light comes on with three beeps and then continues to flash. The coolant level is fine, not too low and not too high. I recently hit a badger and put rad weld in to stop the leak ive since then changed the radiator and think the rad weld has managed to dirty the sensor or something like that.

Any help would be appreciated!!!!

Don't know if that sounds like the coolant temp sensor to me! If it was the temp sensor the water temp gauge wouldn't go up to 90degC or go up then when the fan kicks in drop to about 70degC then not go back up again.

The 3 beeps is for the coolant level. This was quite a common problem in the MK3's. If you give the metal contacts inside the expansion tank a good scrape this might stop the beeps.

Thanks for the reply!!

Are these metal contacts inside the tank then? I dont know if theres a way of splitting the tank and getting access to the inside?

To be fair the expansion tank does look a little grubby since a but in rad weld!!

I must be blind or really stupid or something. Ive had a look at the coolant bottle and had a look inside and cant see any metal pins or anything. There arent any wires or connectors coming off the bottle apart from the two water hoses for the feed and return.

I drive a mk4 seat ibiza tdi sport 130 on a 52 plate. I know there are different types of bottles some with a connector in at the top and some with nothing. Mine is the nothing one.

So id love to know how it measures the coolant level with no lecky plugs coming off it. Im sure i read somewhere that it was the coolant thermistor that measured it but not sure how?

i have exactly the same problem - the expansion trank has no plugs to it - just an unconnected point that isn't used - surely someone must know where the level sensor is????

HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The sensor is on the right hand side of the engine just above the gearbox. There is a little plastic clip in the shape of a 'C' holding the sensor in. The plug that fits onto it has two pins and the sensor plug is grey. Hope this helps.

thats that temperature sensor and doesnt seem to effect the level sensing - i get the same problems with both a new and old sesor - both check out as working fine. this car is so annoying!!!

gone back to my golf, i'm that sick of the beeping and flashing light when nothing is wrong

I don't have some MK3 right now but I used to but in my case it's my coolant. Though, the beeping protocols annoys me sometimes.

I think the problem is causing by gauge panel. My own car is also doing this 3x beep and flashing. And same time when this beeping comes my diesel gauge and outdoor thermometer dies.

So does anybody knows where there is the cold soldering joint in gauge panel?
