Bluetooth Question

Hi Guys,

I'm in the process of trying to find a car to buy, Leon FR petrol. I'm starting to struggle to find one in my price range with bluetooth and 18" alloys at the price and sort of age that I want. I've now found a car slightly cheaper than I wanted to pay with 17" alloys and no bluetooth.

My question is how big a deal is having the factory bluetooth bearing in mind I've never had anything like it before, I'll be sticking a Pioneer head unit in and work will cough up to have aftermarket bluetooth put in.

The cheaper car also means I can afford some after market alloys; unfortunately I won't be able to stretch to BBS's though.

Cheers for any help!

Personally, I thought the factory Bluetooth was worth waiting for. The reasons for this are:

- steering wheel controls integrated (pick up, hang up, speak command)
- voice control
- the neatest fitting - it's built into the dash at the factory
- good placement for the mic in the courtesy light unit
- factory Bluetooth includes an enhanced MDF (multi-function display) which allows you to customize several options which you can't change* without it, such as coming home lights, central locking features, synchronised mirror adjust, etc

If you have the choice between getting factory Bluetooth or the wheels you want, I'd get the former as you can easily change the wheels later once you've saved up. I actually like the look of the 17"s... I think they're a bit more eye-catching than the 18s but I know I'm probably in the minority with that view! ;)

(* - you can still change these options using vag-com and a laptop, but it's more faff and getting a dealer to do it will probably cost you)

Thanks for the reply. I'd love to be able to wait for one to come up but I need to find a car by the 1st Sept as my company car opt is due then. The car I've found is just under £13k (I've got £13.5k), august 2008 08 plate with 6k miles and is standard spec.

I'm not overly sure if this is a good deal and like I said before how biger deal the bluetooth is!

I'm currently considering selling mine - 01Sep09 could be a little soon though!

BlueTooth - Parrot

I didnt want to wait when I ordered my FR, so fitted Parrot one through work when car arrived, which looks fine and is not intrusive in the cabin. I know the bluetooth option Seat do has lots of other benefits relating to control/display, but if you can live without those, then the aftermarket ones are fine (mine is voice activated, auto dial, auto answer etc - making extra switches redundant).

Attached a couple of photos just taken in site compound (modern technology eh) which clearly shows no trailing wires and unit almost out of sight.

Hope this helps

That's the sort of thing I'd look at getting fitted if I did end up with no bluetooth!

I'm massively intrigued by that NickP, your car is very, very nice. When are you looking at selling it? I'm not sure but I may be able to put work off and if this is the case I'd be very interested!

Another quick question, do i need 15 posts before I can send PM's?

Yes I think you do -

send me a pm once you reach 15 posts if you're interested, and I'll give you the spec :)
