Still loving the DSG

Hey,

Well after 2 weeks of ownership I am still loving my 1.6 sport DSG. The gearbox is fantastic. I tend to leave it in auto most of the time. the only weakness is if you are using cruise control the gearbox can go a bit wild at times, changing down 2 gears and screaming the engine to maintain the speed. Not a real problem tho.

One question. is anyone else concerned at the fact the car does not have an engine temperature gauge? It would be nice to see if things were going wrong, rather than having to wait for the stop engine light to come on. Maybe the centre display could have scrolled between fuel gauge and temperature gauge?

lol well it is on the Isle of Wight. If you can keep it on for more than 2 mins its a miracle. I just tried it to see what it's like and noted the wild gear changes to maintain speed...

Glad you're enjoying the DSG.

My Cupra is due in October and I'm still in two minds about the whole DSG thing but at least you're giving me some peace of mind....That said, not too keen on the sound of your cruise control issue!

Bickers70, I had a wry whisper from my dealership that we might receive our Cupra's and Bocanegra's in mid September. Don't keep your hopes up though. I liked the review of the Bocanegra (Cupra in butch dress) in September's Car magazine (with Yvan Muller). As for the DSG, I know when I get it, my left leg is gonna keep going for the clutch, my left arm is going to be going for a change. But, a bit of practice and when you've got the hang of it, bang, you'll know when the changes are coming and what the gearbox is doing, well hopefully.

Personally I'm looking forward to the DSG, with the Cupra's and Bocanegra's there are alot of controls surrounding the steering wheel, so minimal movement to control everything mean's you can concentrate on driving more.

I have my Dsg ibiza a a week and i love it. In D mode the gear changes are very smooth but in S or paddles..... Huge diference, much more power available.
The 6 speed dsg is not like that. It is smoother even in S.
Also I have heard that the DSG in Ibiza FR and Cupra is much sportier so this is the reason i am geting this feeling in my FR

I should be getting my 1.6 DSG this week......reading this certainly helps settle the nerves! Think I'm gonna have to do something with the exhaust from reading the other threads. Will wait and see what its like.

I'm going to order a centre arm rest so might get the exhaust done when its in!. Hopefully get some pics taken at the weekend assumming a) I get it and b) the weather holds!

Why not?

When I collected my leon it was a 100mile trip home on the cruise.

When I collect my new company cars the first thing I do in them is drive them to work (80miles or so each way) on the cruise.

Think it's as you're not supposed to keep an engine at the same revs for prolonged periods during running-in, you're supposed to vary engine speeds IIRC.

I have also heard that and i think its true. They say if the engine stays at certain rpm during running-in, it will not have power in this rpm in the future.
You can use cruise control but your speed must vary. For example, 5 mins at 100km/h then another 5 mins at 120km/h then at 90km/h .....

Hope you're 'wry whisper' is right, that would be a nice surprise.
When my girlfriend had her Ibiza 1.4 Sport from the same dealer, it was due in ealy April and came in mid May so on that basis I was expecting the Cupra, due in October, to arrive in mid November. I guess there's no set rule to it so we'll have to wait and see..........mid September though, that's only 4 weeks away!!!! Fingers crossed.

Hi all. I've had my DSG for just over a week now so really starting to get used to it. Was driving back tonight on a windy road and even in 'D' mode it was fantastic. My car has only done 500 miles but its really starting to come alive......absolutely loving it!

It makes you think really.......why would anyone buy a VW Polo with the same spec?! More expensive and a bit boring looking. The Seat stands out, and its basically the same machine underneath.

All engines are bench run in before they go into your car so don't worry about all that nonsense! just drive it pretty much normal, lets face it that's what warranty is for if it lets go!
