Just found this on the bay.

NEW SEAT LEON IBIZA TDI TURBO DIESEL DUMP VALVE

Has anyone ever heard of these actually doing what it says, cause I always thought a D/V on a derv had no effect at all except noise. I was also informed that a D/V on a derv could lose you power. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

The guy asks the question: - "Why do you need a Blow-off Valve (BOV)?"

And then answers it himself: - "To eliminate compressor surge when changing gears. Excessive back pressure is created when the throttle is closed during gear changes or deceleration, causing turbo cavitation."

Simple answer to your question is, there is no throttle on a diesel engine so the problem he describes does not exist. Basically you'll be paying for a fart valve.

I'll play with him a bit and ask him a few daft questions, post the answers here and see what he says.;)

Answer:

Nice one viking, the funny thing is he put a long write up about how it works and WILL increase performance, then when asked about it says no performance benifits.

I asked:
Yeah you must be right, but my diesel don't have a throttle apparently. All my mates laffin at me when I tell 'em, but they'll not laff when I show 'em with it fitted (if i can fit it).

it'll be a bit cheaper than £130 aswell cos your charging vat at 17.5% insted of 15% innit. How much is it?

Played my ace there....:D

I get enough grief off mates saying mines got a truck engine that I couldn't then add an "airbrakes" sound effect..........especially given that our other car is a Skoda!!! I've got nowhere to hide with a DV!!

Hi dudes, i have one of these so called "blow off valves" fitted to my oil burner - which was purchased from the chap your are talking about on here. he's not a very helpful chap and believes this is the best product since sliced bread. however the BOV has been on my car for a couple of months now and there has been no problem with it, it operates from a switch which is mounted on the THROTTLE PEDAL (this is not vey well explained in the add on ebay) and the switch opperates a solenoid which opens the valve when the pedal returns to idle. I had it on a week before i had a dose of revo added and it made it a hell of alot louder but sadly the BOV had no effect on performance what so ever (but on the add it does specify that it is there to prolong the life of the turbo amongst other b/s). So the long and short of it are - makes a lovely sound but does bugger all else.

Anyone around the oldham area is welcome to come and have a listen before they part with there cash!

And if your running over 150bhp you'll get slapped for another £30 because the lesser BOV cant handle the boost pressure - so i was told.

Couldn't resist asking a question myself :cartman:

I asked;
Hiya mate,

i like the sound of increasing the life of my turbo, but i'd like a bit more info before purchasing one of these.

in the advert it states you get the dump valve, but in the pic there seems to be a few more items.
what is the black box top left and what is the electrical wiring and switch for?

my mates got one on his petrol car and his didn't come with any wires etc.
cheers.

his reply
hi, diesel dump valve needs to be connected to the cars ecu so that it can control the open and closing of the valve, the black box is the control module which does this.

- turbo_revs

then i asked.......
Dear turbo_revs,

Connects to the ECU, sounds a clever bit of kit!
how does it connect, is it just a plug in module?
where do you plug it in?
do i have to splice wires or cut into the wiring loom?

to which he has replied......
it needs to be soldered on, you will need find the throttle sensor cable on the ecu connection and connect to that.

- turbo_revs

:blink:where does it say that in the advert? :ban:

i have now asked....
Dear turbo_revs,

so i have to cut part of the ecu cable to connect this so it works?

This is the one i bought - its not from turbo_revs its from spidarmunk - SEAT IBIZA LEON 1.9 TDI DIESEL DUMP VALVE & FITTING KIT 360175327194. The same sort of thing but it also came with an alloy t-piece to connect it into the pipework and it didnt require and wire splicing.

LOL.

Nothing more to say really. Anyone who buys the crap in the advert blatantly has no idea about diesel engines.

Thats a bit harsh, the stuff you get is of good quality and i'm a seat technician so i know more than most but if i hadnt tried it then i wouldnt know.

But like i said - all i does is make a noise, so if you want a dump valve sounding noise on your diesel then this is for you, but if your a little cinical and dont want to part with the cash then fair play.

A couple of years ago a lad on my college course was tossing up between buying a Sabre electronic dump valve and one of these fart valves for his Golf Tdi.

We tried to convince him not to, but he bought a fart valve. :headhurt:

Needless to say, after enduring a week of people pointing and laughing, it was very quickly removed.

Technically it must decrease performance. Your losing boost pressure, theres the increased risk of a boost leak, plus it would take longer for the boost pressure to rise as theres more pipework.

He bought it from Forge, and even they have stopped selling them.
