Worn top mounts?

Sorry I know this has been discussed before, but searching didn't really reveal the info I was after!

I've noticed that the gap between the top mount cap, and the metal of the car seems to be bigger than I remember (offside in particular), and there is an uneven gap left to right.

I was wondering if this may be a sign of wear in the top mounts, but seeing as the car has just gone through an MOT I'm not convinced!

This is the nearside:

and this is the offside - gap seems bigger?

Any advice appreciated!!
Cheers

Edit: I know my engine bay needs a clean!!!

Yes I had quite big gaps on mine and uneven left to right. Replaced them as I had a knocking from the one and the caps both sit very close to the body now and evenly.

look similar to mine and when I posted the pics on here the general consensus was tht they were fine!

Also mentioned it to both a VAG Specialist and VW garage, and had it mot'd and it went through all fine.

Cheers for that James....seems like there is some variation in cars that are 'fine'!

Think I'll not worry about it for now, as like you say the MOT showed nothing (was done at a garage I trust)....

I'll keep an eye on the ride and see if it gets worse etc....may well change the suspension soon so i'd be replacing them then anyway!

yeah, keep an eye on it. As said I raised the same months ago now, not changed them and they definitely haven't 'gone'
