.. as and when you decide to get off your arse and do some moe to it ;)

that's the plan and also it's downfall. mrs giving me grief about it so i thought if i posted updates here then at least you lot will rib me into doing summat more often :)

downside(well upside to me) is that it's all dreamt up and made as i go along, i guess the usual route V8 Jag axle etc is all done and tried before but it's more the problem solving side i enjoy

in fact tonight i'm lining up steering using either a Ford Escort mk2 quick rack or a landrover Ser1 steerign box onto beetle hubs and leaving it as a surprise wether it ends up Left or Right hand drive

i do hope its a left hooker though i guess

.

Quickie as my nipper was sulking

My little girl has been sulking so i called her out to help me tonight

fibreglassed the dashboard in for a bit of security and some strength (albeit a little) but my kid loved mixing it up and slapping it everywhere, you wait til she has to rub it all down again :p

gave her some welding practice, well she did ask nicely, and i could do with it too so we hacked up a front frame horn and lopped it in there for starters

if she behaves tomorrow i might watch her weld the other 3 on :p

i say 'youngest' as a loose term as she is 15 now and nigh on 6ft tall, mind you she's keen enough so i love it when she digs in and helps out

well i have a left a hefty chunk out as i couldn't be arsed :) and i'm sure many a failed trip to the scrapper's isn't truly thrilling really

main thing was to make sure i got my rear end in gear and kept up with it so keep up the pressure by all means :p

mates reckons if a beeza can do a 1/4 in 16.5 sec or so then the rattie should be able to to knock out a 14.5 sec so my secret target will be 13.5 as it's 0.6 faster than his ford pop ever managed :p just to twist the knife in ;)

tonight i shall be cardboarding a plenum to see if i can learn to make one in carbon fibre as i will need some power from somewhere now - doh!!!!

A small bottle of NOS should do the trick ;)

just literally had same thought as i walked out the back thinking 13.5 maybe being a bit optimistic to start so one day i guess but then i have a couple of spare bottles on the rack so should be fun :):)

Weekends eh?? who'd have em

Well after getting the 'i'm sick' last night i had to turn in to work this am so i didn't leave for bug jam after all but plans all as we were tomorrrow

on way home last night dropped by to collect a few bits including some '34 screen posts and '32 headlamp brackets to see how they would look on mine

627059000661.jpg

got home after working my sat am off and found mrs at work so i dragged my sorry a$$ outside to get a few bits done

after welding up a bit of front and rear end another knock at door (6 today) revealed a man bearing gift of some free open headers he was throwing so we set about trying em out, must admit they are crap and homemade but the idea and hope is there and never say no to free bits :):)

not loaded pics up yet but last of the 4 front horn plates finished weds night

as i needed a break i stripped the Mtx125R hack i have to tidy a few loose ends :) the left over suede from my ibiza roof a few months back is now adorning the saddle looking lush but feel like a wet fish in the rain, stripped to bare essentials and now premix fuel and anything metal and scratched got matt blacked

waiting on some custom mounting shafts the old man is making so i can have the diff in and lined up

saturday off this week so i hope i can get round to removing and remounting the engine/box a bit better as i have never been happy with it

Well so much for plan A  forgot all about the engine as the old man came round and dropped off the 'wrist-breaker' drill :) so i got stuck into the rear end again while tools were handy and started to slice more out to make way for the diff's girth and see if i could line the wheels up

seems to line up so far ok - more by luck though to be honest

Mrs then decides she's had enough of the noise and smell and sparks everywhere and wants to mow the lawn but i must admit backache already setting in so was a good call :) but tidied up with a mock up to keep me interested and grabbed a couple of rattle cans for some design tests on the rims

That's it this weekend, been ordered to clean up and remind the kids they have a dad with an expensive visit to the funfair so i'm due to spend all night walking round a muddy field emptying out pockets full of loose change to Hypo candy floss sugar enhanced teenagers - mind you if i spot any Outrun or Sega Rally machines they can go fish :)

made a spreader bar for the front briefly last night and added some spacers inside the horns so i can box in the chassis later when the steel arrives, No pics yet but will sort it later anyway

ooh it looks like it will be RHD sadly as the steering box was way too much grief so i have opted for the rack (mk2 escort i think) which will only need chopping 20mm odd and some thread adding to and the beetle tie rod ends fit it a treat but is the wrong way on the pinion - shame

but if anyone knows of a LHD escort mk2 rack anywhere i would be in heaven as i really would prefer it as a left hooker

in fact sod it - im off to google

pics later :)

Spreader bar up front is nearly finished so quick couple of pics for that

back on the rear end tonight just dropped in to post these up quick and newly acquired chop saw coming tomorrow so HOPEfully get stuck in a lot faster now as hacksaw's take forever :) but just need some divine inspiration on what i'm going to mount the steering rack with now

*edit* sectioned and fixed rear upper crossmember ready to start fixing the rear diff upper mount - all good so far

Fixed 3 cars that dropped in my lap after a mornings work anyway - grrr - but finally managed to get a couple of hours freedom to get on with this rear diff

started off grinding up the leftover frame to a more tidier plate/spacer so at least i know it will fit properly, even managed to get it lined up too without a big hammer :) but added some angle bracing too just in case i ever get enough power through it to cause it grief - i wish

with the diff holding itself up i had a quick play with ride height possibilities from standard to downright scraping manhole covers but rideable mind you the pic doesn't show it but you wouldn't get ya big toe under that when it's dropped but don't panic i have some adjusters made to drop the front to match as well of course :p ooh tried out my new rear lamps of course for a bit of bling for once

next stop is some longer coilovers as the jag ones are a little short and stumpy ands with no mountings ( yet ) i have a few options open, spotted some Gaz 15" open 10" closed on da bay but will measure up and sort that for next week - already have mrs moaning for buying the lights already

Hi Fl@pper, good to see the Rattie is getting quality time more recently. You have alot of patience! ;)

The rear lights look SWEET, really will finish off the back end (if you do decide to use these).
So what will follow the sourcing and fitting of your suspension? :)

Are you sourcing all your Parts from the UK for this Rod, or will you have to order overseas?

I have a set of Nissan Figaro rear lamps as well as i was going to use for a 'modern' look but the rest of it has sort of swayed off to older style so couldn't resist the classic teardrops

once shocks are sourced and fitted i have some tie bars to make up for the rear lower arms but already started brackets for them so my jump the queue on that job ooh and steering system still not mounted yet

will be nice to finally have it on all four wheels on it's own, like watching ya kids walk for the first time :) and as for parts well anywhere and anything i find/think,make or adapt or fit really - making it up as i go along here :):)

That's not a new rack there, is it, Mr pper? :)

I plead guilty to it looking like one yes but in my defense it is a Reconditioned one :p going to be greener than a polo Blluemotion this thing, well until i start it up at least - lmao reminds me i need a scrap nitrous bottle to make my plenum from - googling time :):)
