Definitely get it changed, too costly to risk. and that checking from 60K is a load of crap, if a cambelt looks knackered its knackered, if it doesnt look knackered it could be knackered still. I changed the belt on my escort about 10k after first changing it because it had become loose and was flapping a bit, didnt want to risk just retensioning it.

My 04 plate Leon Cupra TDi 150 has just done 42k miles, when would that be due as its a diesel?? Only bought it the weekend, but would rather be safe than sorry!

HHMMM, seems a bit too cheap to me.

I got a quote for £265 inc cambelt, tensioner kit, and labour to fit it, and then the waterpump was an extra 50 quid, so £315 all in.

When i booked it in, i asked them to change the brake fluid as well. I was expecting this to be about an hours labour on top, but when i came to pay they only charged me the £315 ........ bargain!

£315 was the cheapest quote i got for the cambelt and waterpump, and they are a VAG specialist so use the correct coolant etc. So it was win win for me.

They should be done at 60,000 miles or 4 years whichever comes first, from what i have read on here. Thats why i got my 05 plate with 35,000 miles done last week. Better to be safe than sorry.

Its probably best to have it down as yours is on its 5th year now (unless its already been done of course).

I can get the cambelt and water pump done for £225!!! VW specialist and genuine parts.

If you are in Staffordshire I can tell who can do it for that price, and they do it on your drive!

It was booked in for the friday, and should have been ready at about 4pm for me to collect. They phoned me at half 3 saying that the tensioner kit they were sent by the supplier wasnt the correct one for my car. they had just had the new part arrive, but didnt have time to get it done before they closed and therefore could i pick it up at 9am on saturday. He said in this phone call that they had already done the brake fluid, and just needed an hour on saturday to finish the cambelt installation.

I hope what they told me is correct, its listed on their receipt and they ticked the box in my service book.
