Jonwm i wouldnt worry too much about Ford, If they couldnt do the work, they could sub contract the work out to SEAT. but to be fair, they should be able to complete the work themselves as qualified mechanics.

Hey guys,

Icestorm, exactly the same thing is happening to mine too "only when the aircon is on" and when its not, everything seems to work fine. but i know that thres definitely something is up with the fans. GREY225 is there nothing else garages can do apart from changing the fans ??? is there not a cheaper option ?? like change a fuse or something ??? 300 quid + is alot of money hey

and finally, if i dont use my aircon, is everything ok ? or am i still at risk of overheating??

I know i may have to change the fans at one point, but in the winter u sometomes need aircon to clear the windscreen..

thanks

vin

There is another fix called a nime box or something, but i think some people have had issues with the electronics on the car.
As for replacing the fans they aint the best to do, you really need a ramp to get under the car, the fuse isnt the problem, its something in the actual fan, a resistor or something.
If you dont use the air con then the fans shouldnt pulse on off on the high speed, but then you will be sweating your nuts off in the heat.

So having been to my local SEAT dealer and being told it was perfectly normal, how do I get my fans replaced (I have a third party warranty that covers the electric cooling fans). Problem is I really need a garage to acknowledge the problem to get the fans replaced under warranty...

There are some really big threads on here about the problem and on VW websites, I printed them out and took them to the garage when I had the problem, they didn't argue!

I haven't looked but does it describe the fan's operation in the owners manual, I would think it does? If so, take the manual and show them.

I've noticed in mine that when i turn the air con on the fans starting blowing really fast but are then fine when i just turn them down. does this sound like the same problem or do yours just blow really fast regardless of what speed setting you have them on?

Its when the aircon is on. The fans dont work on the slow speed that theyre supposed to. So if nothings done than yes the fuses can blow. Best thing to do is get the fan control unit checked first. If thats faulty then youre talking 90 quid for a new one. Worst case is new fans my friend. And unfortunately its almost 500quid for a new set fitted.
