best suspension for handling advice wanted

guys, having nearly perfected my handling setup with the mods in my signiture, i now wish to put the final piece in.

new nice and stiff limited body roll suspension setup.

now, i have read alot on the following brands, setups... dont want to spend a fortune, 350 would be tops really so here we go


also can we refrain from the coilover war aswell please as im fully aware on the pros and cons, just after peoples advice on what they think the handling is like on the following


1...jom coilovers, read tons of reviews on vw vortex and seem to be highly rated... not sure on handling capabilities.

2. weitec 50mm shock and spring kit ultra gt.. -35mm on cupra.

3. vmaxx coilovers.. again decent reviews

4. ap coilovers....


any other within this price range you can think of??

fancy coilovers due to me maybe tracking now and again, not interested in really adjusting damping etc, as thats for the pros imo.

just after a set of nice and stiff but not bone crunching suspension, that will cope well with fast road use and occasional very occasional track day useage??

Out of the 4 listed weitec are easily the best brand.... used weitec before and i must say they make superb suspension..... but if your going for coilovers i would say go for jom over ap and vmaxx in my opinion....
Unless you want to save up and spend stupid money i would go with weitec or jom

To be honest the only benefit coilovers have over a spring/shock kit is the adjustability. They are both just a coil and damper unit ( except for the rear as they are seperate) It just depends on how low you want to go. I dont see the point of getting coilovers and only lowering say 20-40mm imo.... but on the other hand if your planning on slamming it say 50-70mm or even more then your gonna have to get coilovers ...... it just depends on what you want

not interested in slamming it as you say... 25-30mm is the best imo for handling purposes.. coilovers are generally stiffer due to the design, as that is what i want for better corner handling etc.

just after peoples opinions on handling aspects of the beforementioned setups??

James, TBH any coil/shock or coilover set up is only as good as the shocks.
Also the benefit of coilovers is a matched pair of shocks and springs in one package.
If I were you I'd go for a set of springs to suit the ride height you want with good shocks like Koni Yellows

what other good shocks are available guys, cheer willie, thats another option i hadnt thought of??

but, if the price creeps upto coilover weitec price, i think itd be better to just go there..

althought he konis are adjustable..hmmh

Go for Weitec coilovers then, we have them on special at £390.39 all in at the moment.

dont mean to hijack but how long will that offer be on for also do you guys thinks its more effective handling wise to uprate ARBs or suspension 1st. thanks

well im wanting to uprades for pure handling purposes without spending to much, initially i was thinging of goin with ARBs before touching the suspension but seeing how a neuspeed 28mm arb is close to the price of thw wietecs.

depends what you want really

I have had fixed suspension for years, then bit the bullitt and went with coilies....never looked back

I just like to have the option of being able to adjust them if I need to

mine are KW V1's, which aint cheap, but pretty much the fit and forget version, but still adjustable

In my case, I'm likely to be staying OEM with the suspension (I've not tried a car with upgraded suspension, but I'm not dissatisfied with the LCR as standard) so I'm going to get some Neuspeed ARBs instead. My plan is to keep my car relatively OEM (really just stage 1+ rather than upgrading everything).

tbh the only real reason for upgrade is the quaife diff... pulls so hard round the corners, increases the body roll on the current setup. they just cant hadle the diff guys.

James if it's body rooll you want to cancel out best to upgrade the front ARB or fit LCR spec shocks to allow you to run the frontr ARB in the LCR position

Na you wouldn't have to change the hubs etc like in the MK1V posts I was telling you about. The LCR and LC subframes are the same so the LCR ARB would fit if the shocks had the preparation for the ARB drop links
