Chip Wizards for custom remap???

As the title says really, has anyone used Chip Wizards, i.e Wayne Schofield, for a remap? Iv heard he has a very good reputation, being able to remap pretty much anything with amazing results. Im very very tempted to go with him, just wanted other peoples opinions before i hand over the £450. Thanks

Either he has the magic touch, or easily persuaded customers - I wonder which?

I would always suggest looking to someone who know's your car inside out - so a VAG specialist tuner.

yes but the problem with most of the VAG "specialist" is that they use of the shelf maps, just plug in, download, take your money and say goodbye. I work for a vauxhall dealership with "Vauxhall Specialist Technicians", we remap the VXR range and its basically like downloading a program on your pc, theres no adjustments made for each individual engine, all engines are different and need mapping differently. It takes a certain skill to be able to do that live on a rolling road.

So what do you think chip wizards do then?

All stage 1 maps are generic but most stage 2 maps will have some adjustments made to account for your mods.

They specialise in 'custom/bespoke' remaps. In other words they have the vehicle running on the rolling road and change the existing map unitl the desired readings are achieved. If people with track cars, highly tuned porches and even a ferrari F40 owner trust him with there cars he must do a good job. I know he has a reputation for being a bit eccentric but he seriously does know his stuff. Anyway, back to the original question, who has used him and what is their remap like?

seems like youve already made your mind up on the remap and dont like the sound of the vag tuners. personally im happy with revo and they offer good flexability with the select switch and further upgrades for hardware mods.

Awsome GTI (APR software), RS Tuning, P-Torque, AMD all can and do use a rolling road for custome mapping.

Then there is Badger5 who does his custome mapping live on the road.

Any of the above tuners can/will do you a custome map.

could say mine both have custom re-maps.....

FR is a lower torque file so it doesn't shudder and is driveable (peak torque is lowered and lengthened before drop off)
......Beemer files have to be downloaded and tweaked individually so you could say that was custom too....?

IMO Custom is where you start with nothing & have to scale MAF's, Injectors, Compressor maps etc

Bespoke is where you tweak an existing file to suit some tame modifications

Ok, so where in the north west would people say is the best place to go? I can rule out awsome gti, i know a few people who have had bad experiences there, not for tuning granted but i dont trust them, also some body on this forum took their car there for remap and they couldn't do it, awsome had to take it to chip wizards for wayne do it for them, and i know it did take him 4 months to get round to it but he still did it where as awsome couldn't. So any suggestion. Where are P-Torque based? iv heard a lot about them, and they dont use off the shelf software?

any vag tuner can put a "custom" map on. but why are they going to change a tried and tested map on a standard car everytime they re-map one?
if your car has various mods then you would need a different map done, which they can and do do.

If you see an outfit you like the sound of talk to them if you're reasonably technical, a chat should reveal how much they know & if they're going beyond their limits of knowledge.

One thing to remember with off the shelf remaps is they usually started life as a custom remap & have been tweaked a little bit so they are more generic & have larger margins of safety than the original custom map. Also your car is shipped with a, very conservative, generic map. It's about how close you want to get to the limits of your engine.

Then there is Badger5 who does his custome mapping live on the road.
This is a nice way for a general setup but really you should do this in combination with a rolling road to make sure everything work out properly. The problem with live on-road mapping is that it can be very hard to get certain load conditions reliably mapped & so you can have holes in your map that you think are right but actually aren't good at all. One area springs to mind is sustained 4500-7000 rpm with a 0-20% TPS, absolute pig to do in the real world but easy on the rollers & as the Panda is making boost at that point a very critical place to be map properly.
