gearbox whine?

For the last month my 1.4 has developed an odd whine its hard to pinpoint but seems to come from somewhere in the front left, it only does this when im accelerating in 5th and its like a sort of supercharger/turbo spooling up kind of noise (which does sound cool for a while until i realise it may be causing damage) it gets higher pitched/faster as i increase speed only in 5th gear tho. I was thinking some sort of gbox problem as it only does it in 5th above 50mph. can anyone help shed some light on this?

have you checked the oil level recently?

or maybe the wheel bearing?

Do the above, Check wheel bearing and gearbox oil level, it maybe a bearing in the gear box

I would of said gearbox bearing, my first ibiza had it. Did 20,000 miles like it as well

thanks guys but the engine oil is only 5or so mnths since changed and i changed the gbox oil when i was replacing a rev switch recently,just passed mot so im assuming wheel bearings were ok.
Im thinking the gbox bearing is sounding more like it,drive seens like normal no change in anything just the noise.Do you think its ready for going or do you normaly get a while before gbox replacement?

I stuck 30k on mine like it, the next owner who was friend stuck another 20k on it and he never said it went. If your rough with it it'll increase the wear, but if your mostly a steady driver then you could effectively double your current mileage.
