Engine Management Light on since Cambelt Change

Hi all,

I used to have access to this site, but couldn't get on recently so have resigned up.

Anyhoo.. I had a friend change the cambelt on my car (53k) he's a reliable source and used the Awesome Gti timing belt kit. He said he only disconnected 2 electrical/sensing things but now my engine management light is on.

Does anyone have a ECU reader/diagonistic thing that can tell me what it is, or to get it reset to see if it comes back on. Or does anyone know a garage that does it for a good price?! I'm in Brighton, East Sussex, but can travel, I can take it to Pieffers but they won't be cheap! :headhurt:

It's fixed it! thanks! :)

Did cause another problem tho! My stereo locking up! Luckily I keep every bit of paperwork so soon unlocked!

Now just need to work out how to keep the jacking point cover on!!!

i had the same problem. i reset the ECU and it fixed the light, only for it to come back on later and cause even MORE problems. i would seriously recommend getting it checked. it could be anything from a tooth being out to the camshaft positioning sensor on its way out,or in my case,my variable valve timing bricking it.

seriously, make sure that the timing is right on the car, before its too late!
i went through this hassle just 2 months ago :( cost me £710 to fix because the garage that done the job wouldnt admit liability

the op doesnt describe there being any obvious faults though... just the guy undid 2 sensors which would create codes,

if no recognisable issues then there probably isnt any.. especially where the belts are concerned.

IF it comes back on i'll get it looked at. :)

The covers not having any of it, the other side is fine. It just doesn't want to 'click' in!

I took my Leon Cupra 04 in the garage today as the engine management light came on. I was expecting a quick diagnostic check, but instead got a £120 bill and they couldn't tell me what the problem was :(

My engine management light has been fine, however since new discs and pads all round my brake light keeps coming on and off. I'm gonna top up with brake fluids and see what happens!:shrug:

no need, some brake pads dont have the mad sensor wire thingy that keeps track of brake pad wear so the light is going to keep coming on unless its bypassed! my garage done something to the wires to keep the light from coming on,not sure what though!
