Evening all. This morning i went to start my car, i turned the key and it started to turn over then i let go just for a sec (accidentally) which stopped the turn over, The key didnt turn all the way back, then i turned the key again and as it was turning over i saw smoke from out of the side of the bonnet, about half way up on the driver side. There was a smell too? The car started, and the smoke went. The car was very spluttery on tick over for about 20 seconds then it was fine? i drove to work and all was good. Car still seems ok now, any ideas what it was? im hoping its nothing to worry about:confused:

maybe a wire burning, current may have been still going through a wire and it got hot and melted the covering? Once the car started, the current would have stopped.

Check wires going to starter motor

Sound lik eit could be the wires to the starter motor, or something similar. Bad luck buddy, hope you get it sorted.

Yeah im thinking that too, cant see anything obvious? AA is coming out anytime so i will let them get there hands dirty. Fingers crossed its just a wire? Its typical, I put the car up forsale over the weekend. The wife said my car dont want me to sell it!!!!

Its probably just some partly burnt combustion gasses which have been push back up the inlet manifold as it probably spat back when it didnt start. If its been ok since then I wouldnt worry too much. My kit car does the same thing if it spits back out of the throttle bodies.
