Cleaning the Black Mk5

So I managed to pry the keys off the wife today for the ride to work. Plenty of smiles as this little thing corners so well!!

Anyway, as the weathers been crap all week I decided to give the week old ibiza a clean, then it all came flooding back to me, BLACK!!!!!!!

I used to ride a VFR800 in black and that was bad enough to clean, but this is a whole new world.

I was so worried about scratching the thing. Used my usual Zip wax shampoo with mitt, rinsed then shammy. Thats the bit that really bothered me. I didn't bother with the polish as I ran short on time.

It still looks a little dirty in some places but pretty good on the whole.

Just wondered what people with black or dark cars do to clean theres to avoid scratching and smears? Anyone got any miracle stuff they buy?

I would also love to hear any suggestions. I live near a very dusty building site, so when ever i wash my car it seems to be absorbed in the water, and left on the car when the water evaporates, which makes the car look worse than before i washed it!

Scratches and swirls are all part of black car ownership. ANY shampoo product you buy is only as good as the water you use and the technique you use, if you put dirt and grit in the bucet you use to shampoo then its going straight on the car. Most people use the "two bucket" method. I always find using a proper natural chammy far far better than the synthetic ones

i don't use a shammy leather now to finish the car best thing to use is one of those micro fibre cloths,and try and use car shampoo only/not the one with shampoo and wax,no good if you have had the car super-guard from new.

Yeh I've just ordered a micro fibre cloth. Going to invest in some decent shampoo and a lambs wool mitt too.

Watch what you are doing with lambs wool. I made a right b*llox of my Inferni black cupra with it.

I had a lambs wool bonnet on a machine though, never again!!! One word:

i just recieved my new seat ibiza coupe sport in Met Black. I just use the powerwasher ,
i guess im a bit savage
But i always use turtle wax for a clean .
Try that ?

Must be a different breed of lamb or sumat....

I think Beaconjon is going to use the lambswool to wash the car not polish it.

let me advise you a solution which is very useful in windy and hot weather. simply wash your cars first roof sponge it with car shampoo than dry it with a microfibre cloth.(also i recommend high speed wax sonax before drying) then go on with other parts do not wash it totally. believe me it is the best way.
