for the level of correction you go for its time consuming rather than difficult. once you know what grades of pad and polish to use youre away..... dont put him off :)

your work is top class mate and im not knocking that... i would love to do a proper job on my car. as it is, i can spend an afternoon on mine and it will look 4 times as good as it would doing it by hand all day.

I've been with Greig @ TotalVAG today checking out my engine. The head is off and on first inspection it looks very good in there, greg said it was probably the cleanest internals he'd seen on a 1.8t. The chain was loose and the inlet cam was retarded quite a way which is probably why I was seeing so many cf's

I'm just waiting on the rods now as there was bit of a problem but it's a long story and it's all in hand.... It's nothing that greg has done.

I'll be going down on Monday to help with the aircon removal as well as do a few other jobs. Hopefully it should be finished early next week.

Yes Scott, it'll be there until Tuesday/wednesday next week.

What are you down there for? Are you local?

I met Hooch there today, it is nice to put a face to a name... It's a shame I won't have time to pop in.

Scotty / Aaron what time are you going down there for, i might be tempted to take a break from pulling the car to bits, pop down and chat for a bit :)

I can't get away from home mate. My mum is coming over.

it's a bit of a pain Willie but IMO worth it if you are like me and prefer to open a window. Once you have the compressor off you'll need a belt from a golf. Removing the pipes and the rad are the biggest jobs.

How much do we think it all weighs? I'm having a guess at around 20/25kg

Yup, would weight quite a bit and is forward of the front wheels aswell so a good place to loose weight from

Small update -

yesterday I removed the aircon pipes from around the back of the engine. Today the INA rods had been sorted and Greig has rebuilt the engine, the cam timing looks absolutely perfect now so I'm hoping for an improvement there... He also fitted a newsouth inlet gasket. We removed the aircon rad and I also sorted my boost pipework, which was giving me a headache.

Tomorrow Greig will fit the cambelt and remove the final parts of the aircon system... It's actually a big job if you are thinking of doing it but the bay looks less cluttered at the front now.

Two new tyres tomorrow will almost finish it off, I think I'll be getting it back on Thursday so I'm not going to get long to clean it before the national

I really wouldn't know mate as it's been done at the same time as the rest of it. I'd imagine almost cambelt price plus parts and an hour or twos labour.

Best bet is to give them a ring but you'd probably go to AMD

:) i have less than 50 miles to go until its run in.... ive been gradually giving it more and more but with very low boost settings. it feels very good so far, although i do have a coolant issue that will need sorting sooner rather than later.

i cant wait to get the oil changed and the WMI up and running, im sure i will be seeing some good figures...... im sure theres some wood around here somewhere hehe
